North Texas at UTSA

ATS Record: North Texas 7-5, UTSA 6-5

O/U Record: North Texas 7-5, UTSA 7-5

Conference USA kicks off Championship Weekend on Friday night. UTSA is seeking a second straight conference title with the Roadrunners playing on their home field. They survived a 31-27 win against North Texas in October but failed to cover the 10-point spread in that game. Despite winning their last nine games, the Roadrunners covered the spread as favorites just three times in those nine games. As for the Mean Green, they only finished 7-5 this season and were just 2-4 on the road, although a head-to-head win over Western Kentucky gave them the tiebreaker to finish second in the C-USA standings. In addition to their struggles on the road, North Texas is just 1-4 against UTSA when facing the Roadrunners in the AlamoDome.

No. 12 Utah vs. No. 4 USC

ATS Record: Utah 7-5, USC 8-4

O/U Record: Utah 6-6, USC 9-3

In mid-October, these teams played a thriller that Utah won at home, 43-42. The Trojans now have a chance to avenge their only loss of the season while also punching their ticket to the College Football Playoff if they can win the Pac-12 Championship Game. Of course, this will be the fourth time in the last five years that Utah is playing in the conference title game, so the Utes surely have experience in big games, especially after winning last year’s championship. However, Utah’s three losses this year have all come away from home and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas could feel like a home game for USC.

No. 13 Kansas State vs. No. 3 TCU

ATS Record: Kansas State 8-3-1, TCU 9-2-1

O/U Record: Kansas State 6-6, TCU 7-5

While the Horned Frogs shared the 2014 Big 12 title, this could be TCU’s first outright Big 12 championship. More importantly, the Horned Frogs would surely lock up a spot in the College Football Playoff with a win. TCU looked locked in during last week’s 62-14 thumping of Iowa State. Of course, that was just the second time TCU won a Big 12 game this year by more than 10 points, so the Horned Frogs have played a lot of tight games, including a 38-28 win over Kansas State in October that the Wildcats led by 18 in the second quarter. Speaking of the Wildcats, they’ve won three in a row and are 2-2 SU as an underdog this season.

Toledo vs. Ohio

ATS Record: Toledo 4-8, Ohio 9-3

O/U Record: Toledo 6-6, Ohio 7-4-1

The Bobcats are looking for their first MAC title since 1968, going 0-4 in MAC Championship Games since 2006. Toledo, meanwhile, won its last MAC title game appearance in 2017. The Rockets have also backed into the title game, losing two in a row and losing five in a row ATS. On the other hand, the Bobcats have won seven straight SU and eight in a row ATS. Ohio is still an underdog in this game, although the Bobcats were 8-0 ATS in conference play and 5-2 ATS as an underdog, including four SU wins as an underdog.

Coastal Carolina vs. Troy

ATS Record: Coastal Carolina 4-6-1, Troy 9-3

O/U Record: Coastal Carolina 6-5, Troy 5-7

The Chanticleers lucked out because James Madison can’t play in the Sun Belt title game despite winning the East Division. Yet, CCU has a chance to win its first outright conference title since joining the Sun Belt. They might have to do it without quarterback Grayson McCall, who has missed the team’s last two games. The Chanticleers lost both of those games ATS and managed just seven points in last week’s loss to James Madison. Meanwhile, Troy is riding a seven-game winning streak and finished the regular season 9-3. The Trojans are 5-2 ATS during that winning streak, including 4-2 ATS when favored.

No. 11 LSU vs. No. 1 Georgia

ATS Record: LSU 7-5, Georgia 6-6

O/U Record: LSU 6-6, Georgia 4-8

LSU is no longer in the College Football Playoff conversation after last week’s loss to Texas A&M, although the Tigers would still love an SEC title in Brian Kelly’s first season. Dating back to 2009, the Tigers have won four of their last five meetings with Georgia, including the 2019 SEC title game. In Kelly’s career, his teams are 37-17 ATS when facing a team with a winning percentage of .750 or better. Obviously, the Bulldogs are unbeaten this year and 29-1 SU in their last 30 games. Georgia’s only loss during that span came against Alabama in last year’s SEC Championship Game. Finally, it’s worth noting that LSU is 3-1 SU as an underdog this year, although the Bulldogs have covered the spread in all three games in which they’ve been favored by fewer than 20 points.

No. 22 UCF at No. 18 Tulane

ATS Record: UCF 7-5, Tulane 10-2

O/U Record: UCF 5-7, Tulane 6-6

Tulane hasn’t won a conference championship since 1998 and to snap that drought, the Green Wave will have to break a five-game losing streak against UCF. That includes a 38-31 UCF win in November, accounting for one of the Green Wave’s two losses this year. Despite losing to the Knights earlier this season, Tulane is still a home favorite this week. Tulane coach Willie Fritz is 31-14 ATS during his career when his team is favored, including 8-2 this season.

Fresno State vs. Boise State

ATS Record: Fresno State 5-7, Boise State 6-5-1

O/U Record: Fresno State 7-5, Boise State 6-6

This has become the marquee rivalry in the Mountain West with this being the fourth time since 2014 the Bulldogs and Broncos have met in the conference title game. Boise State has won two of the previous three, but Fresno State won the most recent championship meeting in 2018. Of course, the Broncos were victorious, 40-20, earlier this season. In fact, Boise State has won 17 of the 21 meetings against Fresno State since the turn of the century. More recently, the Broncos have won six of their last seven games, going 5-2 ATS during that stretch. But the Bulldogs have rattled off seven straight wins since that loss to Boise State.

Purdue vs. No. 2 Michigan

ATS Record: Purdue 5-7, Michigan 7-5

O/U Record: Purdue 6-5-1, Michigan 3-8-1

Jim Harbaugh is on the verge of winning his second straight Big Ten title and taking the Wolverines to the College Football Playoff for the second straight season. Of course, Michigan will have to find a way to avoid a letdown after a huge win over Ohio State last week. Meanwhile, the Boilermakers have nothing to lose after winning three in a row to claim a crowded Big Ten West Division. Purdue is 3-3 ATS as an underdog this year, although they’ve won three times SU in that role. Jeff Brohm is also 15-3 ATS at Purdue when the Boilermakers face a team that outscores its opponents by at least 10 points per game. But Purdue hasn't beaten Michigan since 2009, although these teams haven’t met since 2017.

No. 10 Clemson vs. No. 24 North Carolina

ATS Record: Clemson 6-6, North Carolina 5-6-1

O/U Record: Clemson 7-5, North Carolina 6-6

After a one-year hiatus, Clemson is back in the ACC Championship Game, although the Tigers are out of the College Football Playoff discussion. Nevertheless, Clemson is 7-1 in the ACC Championship Game whereas the Tar Heels lost their only appearance in the conference title game when they faced Clemson in 2015. More recently, both teams are coming off a loss with the Tar Heels losing two in a row SU and three of their last four ATS. However, North Carolina is 3-0 SU this season when the Tar Heels have been an underdog.
