The Wildcats beat Florida last season, although Kentucky hasn’t defeated the Gators in back-to-back seasons since 1976 and 1977. They also have just one win at The Swamp since 1986. The silver lining is that win came in 2018, so Kentucky shouldn’t feel like winning is an impossible task. That said, Florida had perhaps the most impressive win in college football last week, beating Utah, 29-26. The Gators committed just one turnover in that game and new coach Billy Nappier is 25-4 during his career following a game in which his team committed one turnover or none.

Baylor picked up where the Bears left off last season when they won the Sugar Bowl to finish a 12-2 season, crushing FCS foe Albany, 69-10. But the Bears have to go on the road to face a ranked team this week, going just 3-2 in true road games last year. Baylor is also an underdog against a BYU team that went 21-4 over the last two years. However, the Bears are 5-1 SU as an underdog over the last two years.

The Panthers won in Knoxville last season, yet the reigning ACC champs are listed as home underdogs in this game. In fairness, Pitt wasn’t overly convincing last week, albeit in a challenging rivalry game against West Virginia. The Vols, meanwhile, covered in a 59-10 win over Ball State, although Josh Heupel’s team wasn’t necessarily challenged. It’s also worth noting that Heupel is just 6-18 ATS during his head coaching career after his team scored at least 42 points the previous week.

The Crimson Tide were able to steamroll Utah State last week, but it’s rare for Nick Saban’s team to play a non-conference game against a power-conference opponent, so this should be an interesting challenge for Alabama. With Kirby Smart finally breaking the seal on former Saban assistants beating him last season, former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will test his luck against his former boss. Keep in mind that while Sarkisian is only in his second season at Texas, he has past experience as a head coach at Washington and USC, going 13-4 in non-conference games as a head coach.

Stanford won last year’s meeting between these teams, giving the Cardinal five wins in the last eight head-to-head meetings with USC. David Shaw is also 64-31 against Pac-12 opponents as the Stanford head coach. However, the Trojans began the Lincoln Riley era with a convincing, 66-14 win over Rice, nearly doubling Rice in total yards while forcing four turnovers.

Houston is the ranked team in this matchup, although the Cougars are also road underdogs against Texas Tech. That could be the case with the Cougars needing three overtimes to beat Texas-San Antonio last week. Texas Tech, meanwhile, wasn’t challenged much against Murray State last week but won going away 63-10. For what it’s worth, Houston coach Dana Holgorsen was 5-2 against Texas Tech earlier in his career at West Virginia, although the Red Raiders beat Houston 38-21 last season.

Sam Pittman turned things around at Arkansas in a big way last season, leading the Razorbacks to a 9-4 record and a top-25 ranking at the end of the season. In Pittman’s first two years, Arkansas is 10-2 ATS during the first half of the season. The Hogs kept it up last week, beating Cincinnati, 31-24, and covering the 6.5-point spread. On the other side, despite South Carolina’s 35-14 win over Georgia State looking impressive, the Gamecocks scored two of their touchdowns on special teams to put the game away.
Oklahoma State has high hopes after going 12-2 last season, capping the campaign with a win in the Fiesta Bowl. But the Cowboys looked like their former selves in their season opener, scoring points with ease but struggling defensively. They failed to cover the spread in a 58-44 win over Central Michigan in Week 1. That’s not going to fly against Arizona State, which was strong defensively last season, although the Sun Devils are trying to reload on that side of the ball. Plus, Florida transfer Emory Jones gives ASU a dual-threat quarterback who can help them keep pace in a shootout. That being said, Mike Gundy is 83-57 (.568) ATS when favored in his career at Oklahoma State.
Before the season, some questioned whether Vanderbilt would even get to two wins this year, but the Commodores are already 2-0, beating both Hawaii and Elon. However, they failed to cover an 18.5-point spread against Elon last week. Vandy is now a 13-point home underdog against Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons were one of the best teams in the ACC last year and cruised past VMI in their season opener. Under Dave Clawson, Wake is 12-2 whenever the point total is between 63.5-70, including a 6-1 road record with that point total.
Washington State fell well short of covering the 28.5-point spread last week, only beating Idaho, 24-17. Now the Cougars are about to find out how difficult it is to play at Camp Randall. However, the Badgers have lost three games at home over the last two seasons, so they aren’t invincible in front of the home crowd.
The Mountaineers nearly pulled off an upset over North Carolina last week in an endlessly entertaining, 63-61 game. Obviously, the App State offense can score points, although heading to College Station will present a stern challenge. The Aggies typically take care of business in non-conference games, going 11-3 ATS in non-conference games under Jimbo Fisher.
