2024 Heisman Trophy Sleeper Pick

There's nothing like cashing an extreme long shot future bet, and incoming Texas Longhorns freshman quarterback Arch Manning is sitting at 100/1 at FanDuel! It certainly is a long shot, but if he actually starts in Week 1 next season, it's possible. Some books don't even have him listed on their boards, so grab this at FanDuel, which is one of the only books taking bets on him.

Arch Manning To Win Heisman Trophy

Manning isn't even the listed starter at Texas, so his odds are quite obviously going to be a longshot to win the Heisman. However, that doesn't mean that he won't start in Week 1. We have to remember who this is, after all. Few high school recruits have ever endured the kind of spotlight Manning has experienced during his career in high school in New Orleans.

His family pedigree and his five-star ranking made his recruitment one of the most watched and most anticipated we have seen in a decade. He clearly has the traits and intangibles to be a starter, but it isn't all that easy. Manning will be competing with returning starter Quinn Ewers, who had quite an up-and-down season in 2022. His inconsistencies really shined through all year, and while there were moments he looked like a future star, there were others where he should have been benched. We're counting on the latter, and there are several reasons why that could happen.

First off, just look at the schedule Texas has to endure to begin 2023. They will play at Alabama in Week 2 and at Baylor in Week 4, meaning it’s not really farfetched to think the Longhorns will be 2-2 after four weeks. The Longhorns went 3-3 in their last six games last season. If Steve Sarkisian thinks Manning will give them the best chance to win, he will roll with him. Sarkisian is 13-12 and entering his third season at Texas and has a lot of pressure on his shoulders. Any September struggles are going to crank up the heat on his seat, and he knows that he has to start winning to keep his job.

One way to do that would be to start Manning. If there is one thing we know about him, it's that he is going to be prepared for the moment he gets the call to step in and start. His family definitely would make sure of that. Uncle Peyton started eight games as a Vols freshman, and his other Uncle Eli started as a redshirt sophomore. They will have him prepared. At a massive number of +10000, I think he will be a great bet if he starts in Week 1 or 2. If he were to lead Texas to a playoff appearance, it's almost a guarantee.
