Kentucky has looked impressive in their first two games of the season, but now they will actually face a team that is more than just a scrimmage for them. Michigan State is not ranked to begin the season, but this is a very good basketball team that can compete with anyone. They were actually ranked just outside the preseason Top 25, so Kentucky has to be on their guard. Michigan State just faced off against No. 2 Gonzaga, and probably should have won. They played an excellent brand of defensive basketball, forcing 18 turnovers, and held the Bulldogs to just 42 percent from the field, including 22 percent from three.

The Wildcats are still not at full-strength, and they haven't been this season at any point. Sahvir Wheeler made his debut after missing the opening game, and he was awesome. He came off the bench and finished with a double-double (11 points and 11 assists). The biggest question of all is if reigning National Player of the Year, Oscar Tshiebwe, will be ready to play in this game. Tshiebwe is officially listed as day-to-day on the injury report.

MY PICK: The key for this game will be depth, and Kentucky has far more of it than the Spartans do. Give me Kentucky here, with or without Tshiebwe.

Winthrop has shot a solid 45% from the floor so far and have also dished out 13 assists per game. Kelton Talford has been their best player and he averages 18.3 points per game and has shot a blistering 77.8% from the floor. That type of offensive play has helped them get to a 2-1 record, but the defense needs some work. They are allowing 72.0 points per game.

Auburn is the exact opposite of Winthrop. They have a defense that may be one of the best in the country; they simply don't allow points. In fact, the Tigers are giving up just 55.5 points per game, one of the lowest numbers in the country in the early going. Their problem is offense, as it hasn't been dominating in their first two wins. They couldn't blow out South Florida, winning 67-59, and only beat George Mason by 18.

MY PICK: Auburn shouldn't have a ton of trouble here. In the one game that Winthrop played a team of any merit (Penn State), they got blown out of the water 93-68. Auburn's defense will suffocate them.

How could we write this article without including Duke and Kansas in another Champions Classic battle? Answer: we couldn't. Just like in the Kentucky game above, blue-blood Duke will get their first real challenge when they take on the defending champions. They blew out two mid-major programs in their first two contests, which was to be expected, but it's how they blew them out that was eye-opening. They beat Jacksonville 71-44 and USC Upstate 84-38. The 82 combined points is their fewest allowed in the first two games since 1946, and against USC Upstate, they turned 23 turnovers into 39 points.

Kansas lost some of their best players after that championship win last season, but they are still loaded. Freshman guard Gradey Dick is a potential Top 5 overall NBA pick, a masterful player that does everything for his team. He took 13 shots in Kansas’ season-opening win and made nine of them for a game-high 23 points.

MY PICK: The key here I think will be the interior, where Duke star Derek Lively II will be a huge factor. He should be able to get whatever he wants under there, and the depth for Duke is better than what Kansas currently is rolling with. Give me the Blue Devils here.
