My pick: Ball State +4
Ball State is coming off a disappointing loss to Akron in which the Cardinals led the entire game before the Zips took over with six minutes to go. The Cardinals let that game slip away from them and they know it. Tonight they have an opportunity to get back on track and gain some momentum heading into the MAC tournament with a win against Toledo, which is the top team in the conference. Ball State beat Toledo on the road earlier this season, so it knows it's capable of hanging with this team. Plus, a win for the Rockets tonight would clinch the MAC title and the Cardinals would love to play spoiler. Ball State is also 6-1 ATS in its last seven home games against Toledo. I smell an upset brewin’. You can get the best price on Ball State at Caesars, along with an awesome signup bonus below!
My pick: Stephen F. Austin +8.5
Utah Valley is by far the better team, especially on the defensive end where it ranks 36th overall, according to KenPom. However, I like the Lumberjacks to cover +8.5 because of their ability to score in transition. They play at a relatively fast pace and can use that to their advantage by not allowing the Wolverines' defense to get set in the half court. Stephen F. Austin is also good at forcing turnovers and while it is, not as fundamentally solid as Utah Valley on the defensive side, it can be a very scrappy team that isn't afraid of jumping passing lanes and going for steals. The Lumberjacks are 13-6-1 ATS in its last 20 games and have performed well on the road this season. I think they'll do just enough to cover this number tonight so head over to BetMGM and grab the best price at +8.5.
My Picks: Pacific +9
San Francisco is the heavy favorite in this game because they earned a first-round bye in the WCC Tournament while Pacific played yesterday in the opening round. The Tigers knocked off Pepperdine with an 84-71 win, shooting 50% from the field and deep. It's going to be hard to replicate that performance tonight, but I'd argue it's going to give them a little more momentum coming into this game than San Francisco. The Dons have beaten Pacific twice this season, but they shot above average in both games, including pouring in 13 of 23 threes in their first meeting. San Francisco has only covered the spread once in its last six games and, according to Haslametrics, the Dons are one of Division I's more erratic teams, ranking 287th in the country in consistency. Give me the points with Pacific!
