Today's College Basketball Betting Lines, Odds & Picks

Tuesday presents a full night of college basketball with a whopping 60 games on the schedule. There is also a huge top-25 matchup between No. 17 Illinois and No. 2 Texas, who will meet in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. Be sure to check out my play in that game as well as our model for more of today's top picks.

Illinois vs. Texas Preview

Illinois (4-1 SU, 3-2 ATS, 2-3 O/U) and Texas (6-0 SU, 3-3 ATS, 1-3-2 O/U) take the floor at Madison Square Garden tonight where they meet as part of the Jimmy V Classic.

If you like defense, this is going to be a fun one to watch. Both of these teams pride themselves on playing tough, hard-nosed defense. Their rosters are built with strong, athletic players who can switch everything and guard multiple positions. Texas has the slight edge on the defensive side of the ball, ranking ninth in scoring defense and fifth in 3-point percentage defense. Guarding the perimeter is going to be key in this game for the Longhorns because Illinois is 19th in the country in 3-point attempts and have a top-50 offense. Offensively for Texas, they like to play fast. They use their defense to create chaos in the hopes of turning you over and getting out in the fast break. Illinois’ best chance at winning this game is to try and slow Texas down and make them play in the half court. If they’re able to do that successfully, that’s going to slow this game down a ton and buckets aren’t going to come quite as easily for the Longhorns. Not a bad sign for the under!

My pick: Under 140.5

Georgia at Georgia Tech Preview

In-state rivals Georgia (7-2 SU, 3-6 ATS, 3-6 O/U) and Georgia Tech (4-2 SU, 4-2 ATS, 1-5 O/U) meet tonight at McCamish Pavilion in downtown Atlanta.

This should be a hard-fought game between two teams that are separated by less than 100 miles. Georgia has been the better team thus far, but Georgia Tech has been flawless at home with a 4-0 record. The Bulldogs rely heavily on the defensive end and rebounding to keep them in games, but I fear that could take a step back tonight. According to head coach Mike White, the team has been dealing with injuries and illness, and was down to just seven or eight players for Monday’s practice. There is a chance a few of those players are back for tonight’s game, but even if they are, I doubt they will be 100% which will affect them on the defensive side of the ball.

Georgia Tech is a team that executes really well and plays hard at all times. Miles Kelly is their leading scorer, shooting 45% from the field right now, and Dallas Coleman knows how to knock down big shots from deep. The Yellow Jackets are averaging 71.3 points per game this season and had two 80-point performances over the last week.

The over has also hit in six of the last eight meetings between these two teams and has gone over by an average of 20 points.

My pick: Over 130.5

Jackson State at TCU Preview

Jackson State (1-6 SU, 4-3 ATS, 3-4 O/U) will play its eighth straight road game tonight against a TCU (6-1 SU, 3-4 ATS, 4-3 O/U) team that hasn’t had a true road game all year.

These two teams come into tonight’s matchup with opposite records. The Tigers are 1-6 on the season while the Horned Frogs are 6-1. One reason for the difference in records could be that Jackson State only has one returning starter this season, while TCU returned all five starters. That’s allowed the Horned Frogs to hit the ground running and find success early, which I think they’ll do tonight too. Not only do the Tigers struggle to score and have to rely heavily on their leading scorer Trace Young, but they don’t defend very well, giving up 82.1 points per game. That’s a stark difference from the 62.6 points that TCU is giving up. Jackson State is a pretty solid rebounding team and often uses that to help them stay in games, but I think TCU is going to be extra focused on the boards tonight after they gave up 12 offensive rebounds in their last outing against Providence. Overall, all signs point to a big win for the Horned Frogs tonight.

My pick: TCU -22.5
