2023 March Madness Sleeper Pick

With college basketball season ramping up, March Madness isn't far away. That means it's time to start scouring the odds to win the NCAA tournament for major values that could make a deep run. The key to these futures bets is finding college basketball teams that have long odds but could make a run in the NCAA tournament, allowing you to cash out for a large profit.

The NCAA tournament futures market is wide open right now, and there is plenty of value to be found on the board, so let's take a look at one team that I think could be a nice profit-maker this March.

Ohio State To Win NCAAB Title (+10000 at DraftKings)

It's been a disappointing season so far for the Buckeyes of Ohio State, and that was to be sort of expected if you compare this current roster with some of the teams of years past. They are extremely young overall as a team, and with that comes struggles of clumsy play and mistakes.

We have seen a lot of that, especially over the last month, when the Buckeyes have looked terrible. They have lost five of their last six games, but several of those losses have been by one possession. They are 11-11, and they need to start winning games very soon if they even want to make the NCAA Tournament this season. I think that run could be coming for this young team, and the number we are currently offered at sportsbooks I think is finally worth a little bit of a sprinkle here as we head into the month of February before March Madness.

Ohio State has the star player to make a run. Brice Sensabaugh is a freshman, and he does make mistakes as all young players do, but he has been the lifeblood of this Buckeyes team. He's averaging 17.6 points per game and just scored 23 in his most recent performance. You can't win in the Tournament if you don't have that guy who can get you a bucket when you most need it, and Sensabaugh is that dude for Ohio State.

They could have a much better record than they have if they could have just won several games in which they lost by one or two possessions. They lost to North Carolina by five points, Purdue by just two points, Minnesota by three points, Rutgers by four points, Nebraska by three points and so on. They gave teams like Duke and San Diego State a run for their money before ultimately falling short toward the end of those games. If they could have just won a few of those games, they would be in much better shape right now than they currently are. We have seen their ability to compete, now they just need to learn how to finish.

They have some very winnable games coming up. They get a very beatable Michigan team and an overrated Northwestern squad that they already have beaten once this season coming up. Only two teams in the Big 10 are ranked, and every team has a weakness that can be exploited. Even Purdue is a team that I think is quite beatable, as they struggle against press defense.

At the current number of +10000, I think they are worth a small sprinkle to get it together and have a good February and Big 10 Tournament. Again, play it SMALL for a chance at a large payout in the future. I'd suggest a bet ranging from $5 to $15. A $15 bet pays out $1,515 and could be a good cashout.
