Steven Adams Over 9.5 Rebounds
Adams has been really effective at three things this season: setting screens on offense (the Grizzlies thrive with him on the floor vs. with him off the floor), providing toughness and pulling down rebounds. He knows his role on this team, which is very refreshing, and this is an opportunity to take advantage of the last skill mentioned above. In this exact matchup, he managed to record 10 rebounds in 19 minutes (due to foul trouble) and has now finished with double-digit rebounds in four of his first six games.
Before last game, Adams had closed every game of the year in the fourth quarter. That made his three fourth quarter minutes on Saturday quite surprising, especially since he led the team with a +11 plus/minus. Memphis ended up losing and I expect him to log minutes in the mid-to-high 20’s as usual in this rematch. That puts his rebounding potential through the roof.
Kyrie Irving Over 5.5 Assists vs. Pacers
This is an exact rematch of Saturday’s game between the Nets and Pacers, so we kind of know what to expect from Brooklyn: a lot of offensive usage and volume from Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant while the rest of their teammates do their best to contribute. That hasn’t worked out so far, but Irving posted six assists on 12 potential assists against Indiana on Saturday and Indiana has allowed 9.1 assists per game to opposing point guards so far, as they have enjoyed pushing the pace and playing up-tempo. Both of these teams can’t defend and I expect another back-and-forth battle.
Further, since Steve Nash hasn’t gotten much production from anyone not named Irving or Kevin Durant, I expect someone like Joe Harris to see extended minutes (and maybe even crack the starting five) since he can provide long-range scoring. That could also lead to some more assist opportunities for Irving.
Trae Young Under 3.5 Turnovers at Raptors
The Hawks lead the NBA in turnovers per game (11.7) and the addition of Dejounte Murray has clearly benefitted Trae Young’s efficiency as not only a scorer, but a distributor. He’s finished under this 3.5 turnover mark in five of six games this season and although he will get a tough individual matchup against Fred VanVleet, this prop is an assist too high in my opinion.
If he finished with three, it wouldn’t shock me, but I think there’s a much higher probability for him to take care of the ball with three or fewer turnovers versus a sloppy game of four or more giveaways.
