Since making his NBA debut in 2020-2021, Tyrese Haliburton has recorded three games with 15-plus assists and no turnovers. That’s the same amount that the rest of the NBA has accumulated over the last five seasons combined, per StatMuse. Since arriving in Indiana after last year’s mid-season trade, he’s been the best facilitator in basketball and is coming off an 11-dime performance in 31 minutes against the Clippers last night. It was the 14th time he recorded double-digit assists in 19 starts this year, which is the consistency I love to see.
Last night’s game was out of hand since the Pacers got beaten easily, so he didn’t see his full allotment of minutes. Leading the league with 11.1 assists per game on a ridiculous 21.1 potential assists per contest, he racked up 14, 14, 14 and 15 assists in the four games before Sunday (24.0 potential assists in that span) and now gets a great matchup on Monday night in the second half of the back-to-back.
The Lakers just gave up 138 points to the Spurs and have allowed 26.2 assists per contest (9th-most), including 9.22 (6th-most) to point guards. Right now, Haliburton is essentially matchup-proof, but it certainly doesn’t hurt that this is his opponent. It seems insane to have confidence in anyone getting over a 10.5-assist number, but Haliburton’s role and early-season success makes it very difficult to fade him.
Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic has always been one of the most underrated NBA players and now gets an incredible matchup against a Jazz squad that’s fizzling out after their hot start.
Averaging 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, Vucevic gets to go up against a Utah team that has allowed 25.35 points per game to opposing centers (3rd-most) and 16.33 rebounds per contest (5th-most). Not only that, but over the last three games, the Jazz have allowed opposing teams to grab a ridiculous 31.8% of offensive rebounds (3rd-worst in that span). I fully expect Vuc to dominate the inside, where he should be able to manhandle Kelly Olynyk.
Let’s not overthink this one.
