In their last matchup against the Bulls (a 111-96 win last Thursday), the Hornets held Chicago’s bench to 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting; Charlotte won the rebounding battle, 52-43; and the Hornets were victorious despite shooting 7-of-32 (21.9%) from 3-point range. LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Mason Plumlee, Gordon Hayward and PJ Washington are all healthy and can contribute on a nightly basis, while the Bulls are still extremely reliant on the trio of DeMar DeRozan, Nikola Vucevic and Zach LaVine. When one doesn’t deliver, like Vucevic didn’t last time against the Hornets, the rest of the team seemingly doesn’t have an ability to pick up the slack. I wouldn’t be shocked if Charlotte pulled the upset again tonight.
The Hornets have won four of their last seven, while the Bulls have lost three of their last four, including a 111-96 loss to the Hornets last week. The Hornets are also only averaging about two fewer points per game than the Bulls, so I think Charlotte has an excellent chance to pull off the upset here with another win against Chicago.
The Heat are finally starting to round into form after a slow start to the season. They've won four of their last five games and sit sixth in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks have been struggling, but they're still in seventh, just two games behind Miami. That said, our model says to back the home team tonight and I agree. New York ranks fourth in second-chance points over its last 10 games, which could end up being a huge problem for a Miami team that has struggled to rebound all season. The Knicks' issue lately has been consistency on offense, but defensively they're one of the most solid teams in the league and have the personnel to slow down Jimmy Butler.
