Best Bet #1: Lakers +5.5 (-110, BetMGM)
My initial reaction to wanting to bet against the Denver Nuggets at home? The scene from the movie Dodgeball where commentator Pepper Brooks says, "It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em."
The Nuggets have won nine straight home games, as they are clearly comfortable playing in the high altitude of Denver. I mentioned the shooting performance that the Nuggets put on in Game 1, but the Lakers put on a pretty strong performance of their own. The Lakers shot 54.8% overall and 46% from 3.
The Lakers took a strong punch from the Nuggets and still had a chance down the stretch to steal Game 1, all while seemingly figuring out a better way to defend Jokic, limiting him to three points in the fourth quarter. Lebron James loves to use Game 1 in a best-of-seven series as a "feel out" game, typically following it up with a win in Game 2; his teams are 37-12 in Game 2s.
I am taking the points, feeling good about the Lakers' chances to not only cover, but maybe get the outright win.
Best Bets #2 & #3: Anthony Davis o1.5 steals (+105, BetMGM) & o2.5 blocks (+140, BetMGM)
In Game 1, Davis finished with three steals and two blocks. AD has now gone over this total in eight of the last 13 games; he has also gone over 2.5 blocks in 10 of his last 13 games.
I am betting on the trend to continue and taking the over on both his steals and blocks, individually, getting favorable prices of +105 and +140. The key for the Lakers success has been, and will continue to be, all about Anthony Davis. I expect another strong night from AD, getting over both of these totals, helping lead the Lakers to a cover.
