NBA Odds, Predictions For Jan. 31

We didn't have a whole lot of success with our NBA bets last night, which is why we're going back to the drawing board to try and find some wins tonight. Scroll down to see which sides and totals I'm targeting and what other plays our BetQL model likes for today.

One trend to note is that the BetQL NBA Model is heating up, going 55-34 (62%) on all O/U picks in the last 14 days for a total return of $1,600 on $100 bets! Hornets at Bucks Prediction

The Milwaukee Bucks (32-17 SU, 26-21-2 ATS, 24-25 O/U) host the Charlotte Hornets (15-36 SU, 22-27-2 ATS, 27-24 O/U) for the third and final meeting between these two teams this season.

The last time these two teams met, the Hornets scored 51 points in the first quarter, tying the NBA’s record for most first-quarter points. That also set a franchise record for most points scored in any quarter. Charlotte dominated Milwaukee in nearly every facet of that game and I’ll guarantee that’s not something Giannis Antetokounmpo has forgotten. Not to mention, Giannis only had nine points and four rebounds in that game. Because of that, I anticipate a much better start from the Bucks this time around. They’ve been one of the best first-quarter teams ATS this season, while the Hornets are the worst in the league to start games. The Bucks also lead the league in offensive efficiency in the opening frame when playing at home compared to the Hornets, whose offense ranks 27th on the road.

My Pick: Bucks 1Q -4

Lakers at Knicks Prediction

After losing to the Nets last night, the Los Angeles Lakers (23-28 SU, 24-25-2 ATS, 27-24 O/U) now take on the New York Knicks (27-24 SU, 25-23-3 ATS, 26-23-2 O/U) at Madison Square Garden.

Last night's meeting with the Nets didn't go exactly how we had hoped, but for Lakers supporters, tonight presents a new opportunity to back L.A. against a different New York team. Both LeBron James and Anthony Davis sat last night, so they'll be rested and ready for tonight. The Lakers should be able to dominate the glass and get quite a few put-backs. They rank third in second-chance points over their last five games, while the Knicks rank 29th in opponent's second-chance points over that same span. L.A. has also been great in transition lately, ranking sixth in fast-break points, another area where the Knicks have struggled to defend. Not to mention, the Knicks are bad at home, going just 3-7 ATS over their last 10 home games and 9-14-2 ATS on the season at Madison Square Garden.

My Pick: Lakers +3

Heat at Cavaliers Prediction

The Miami Heat (27-23 SU, 20-28-2 ATS, 21-28-1 O/U) and Cleveland Cavaliers (30-21 SU, 25-23-3 ATS, 23-28 O/U) meet for the second time this season in an Eastern Conference clash.

These two teams met in November and the Cavs won, 113-87, with the total staying well below the closing line of 213. Tonight's total has dropped to 211, but I'm going to take the over. Neither Jimmy Butler nor Tyler Herro played in the last meeting and their offensive production was clearly missed. Both players have the ability to score at a high volume and Bulter's presence often leads Miami to play at a faster pace. Defensively, the Heat really struggle to defend the 3, ranking 28th in 3-pointers allowed overall and 21st in 3P% defense. That means Donovan Mitchell should be able to get plenty of good looks from deep. Miami also ranks 19th in opponent accuracy at the rim, allowing teams to shoot 67.5% from within 4 feet. Again, that's good news for Cleveland, which ranks eighth in accuracy at the rim, shooing 68.4%. That's also great news for the over.

My pick: Heat-Cavaliers Over 211
