NBA Odds, Predictions For Feb. 7

Timberwolves at Nuggets Prediction

The Minnesota Timberwolves (29-27 SU, 26-28-2 ATS, 25-31 O/U) and the Denver Nuggets (37-17 SU, 27-24-3 ATS, 25-28 O/U) meet for the fourth and final time this season.

These two teams played each other on Sunday in Minnesota and the Wolves won by 30. However, the Nuggets were without Nikola Jokic, Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray. In each of their first three meetings, the Nuggets have been on the back half of back-to-backs. The first time they met, Denver was coming off a home win against the Celtics and then traveled to Minnesota where they lost by 13. The Nuggets took the second meeting at home after beating Portland the previous night. They dominated the paint in that game and I expect a similar story tonight. Back at home, in a revenge spot and against a Western Conference opponent, I like the home team to come out firing early and sustain that throughout the full game.

My Pick: Nuggets 1Q -2.5, Full Game -8

Suns at Nets Prediction

The Phoenix Suns (29-26 SU, 29-25-1 ATS, 23-31 O/U) continue their five-game road trip with a stop in New York to take on the Brooklyn Nets (32-21 SU, 27-25-1 ATS, 24-28 O/U).

The Suns have turned things around a bit over the last few weeks, winning four of their last five games. Their offense hasn’t been anything to write home about, but their defense continued to remain strong. That’s going to be a big factor tonight against the Nets who are now without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Brooklyn didn’t lack scoring last night against the Clippers thanks to Cam Thomas putting up 47 points off the bench and the team shooting 51% from deep, but I’m not sure it's going to be able to replicate that again tonight, especially on no rest. The Suns should also get Devin Booker back tonight after missing significant time with an injury. I would expect Booker to be on a heavy minutes restriction, but his presence on the floor will add an overall boost for this team. 

My Pick: Suns -4.5

Thunder at Lakers Prediction

The Oklahoma City Thunder (25-28 SU, 33-20 ATS, 30-22 O/U) were blown out by the Warriors last night and now travel to SoCal to take on the Los Angeles Lakers (25-29 SU, 24-27-3 ATS, 30-23 O/U).

OKC hasn’t been great in back-to-back spots this season, but that’s not why I’m going to play against them tonight. LeBron James is 36 points away from passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the NBA’s all-time scoring title. But does he really want to break the record against the Thunder? Or does he want to do it on Thursday against Kareem’s old team when they play the Milwaukee Bucks? I’m going to say the latter, which is why I expect the Lakers to come out firing early in this game in order to build a big enough lead to where LeBron can rest late in the second half and not have to have a massive scoring night in order to win. 

My pick: Lakers 1H -3.5
