Christmas Day is just around the corner, which means so are five big-time NBA matchups between some of the league's best teams and brightest stars. The day opens with Sixers vs. Knicks, followed by Lakers vs. Mavericks, Bucks vs. Celtics, Grizzlies vs. Warriors and Suns vs. Nuggets. To help you make smarter bets, here are a few Christmas Day betting trends to consider before wagering on those games.
The Knicks have been a mainstay on Christmas Day, but up until last season, the day wasn't all that successful for them. New York is just 1-6 straight up over their last seven Christmas Day games with their only win coming last year against the Atlanta Hawks. One of those losses came during the 2017-18 season at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers.
That game against the Knicks broke Philadelphia's streak of 16 straight years without a Christmas Day appearance. The Sixers have played three times since 2017-18 and are 2-1 straight up in those games.
Philly and New York have met 12 different times on Dec. 25 with the Sixers owning a 7-5 overall record.
The Mavs like to run up the score on Christmas Day, going 6-1-1 to the over in their last eight appearances.
LeBron James has played in 16 Christmas Day games throughout his career with a straight-up record of 10-6. The Lakers have the most wins on Christmas Day with 24, but are just 6-14 straight up and 10-10 ATS over their last 20 games. Having gone just 6-12-2 to the over, they're a team that you might want to consider betting the under on.
The Celtics and Bucks played on Christmas Day last season and Boston covered as 7.5-point underdogs on the road.
These two teams have combined to go 12-7 to the over on Dec. 25.
Boston is 5-6 ATS in their last 11 Christmas Day games while Milwaukee is 3-5 ATS in their last eight.
Memphis is playing in its first-ever Christmas Day game. The Charlotte Hornets are the only other team in the NBA that have yet to play on Christmas.
The Warriors came into this season as the defending NBA champions. However, defending champs are 7-7 SU and just 4-10 ATS over their last 14 Christmas Day games.
Golden State is 4-6 ATS and 4-6 to the over on Christmas.
The Suns were a six-point favorite at home against the Warriors last year and lost outright. That moved them to just 3-7 ATS and 6-4 to the over on Dec. 25.
The Nuggets' have played seven times on Christmas Day but only have one win, which came against the Seattle Supersonics in 1994.
Denver's most recent Christmas Day game came in 2020 when the Nuggets lost at home to the Clippers and also failed to cover.
