After a quick two-game homestand, the Phoenix Suns (20-21 SU, 20-21 ATS, 18-22-1 O/U) are back on the road taking on the Golden State Warriors (202-SU, 19-21 ATS, 22-16-2 O/U) tonight at the Chase Center.
The Suns injury report includes all but one starter, Mikal Bridges. Chris Paul, Devin Booker and Cam Payne are all officially out, so Phoenix is on its fourth-string point guard, Duane Washington, to run the offense tonight. Torrey Craig, Deandre Ayton and Landry Shamet are all listed as questionable, which makes me question where their scoring is going to come from if they all sit.
Phoenix won the first two meetings against the Warriors this season, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they punted this game and tried to get healthy. The Warriors are also coming off two straight losses and now play the final game of their seven-game homestand before heading out on a lengthy road trip. In a revenge spot against a depleted Suns team, this game could be reminiscent of last night’s college football national championship. Oh, and the Dubs could get Steph Curry back tonight.
I mentioned that I don't know where Phoenix's scoring is going to come from, which is why I also like their team total to stay under 108.5. They are the only team in the league to not surpass 100 points since the start of the new year. Their offensive rating is also the worst in the league and they're last in points per game, averaging just 93.8 over their last five games.
My Picks: Warriors -11.5, Suns Team Total Under 108.5
The Portland Trail Blazers (19-20 SU, 20-17-2 ATS, 17-20-2 O/U) return home to face the Orlando Magic (15-26 SU, 21-19-1 ATS, 21-19-1 O/U) after a terrible three-game road trip.
The Blazers went 0-3 on that road trip, losing to the Timberwolves, Pacers and Raptors. They shot less than 32% from deep and less than 45% from the field in each of those games. Now coming back home, where role players often shoot significantly better, I would expect those numbers to regress back to the mean. Portland's road and home splits are pretty drastic, going from 19th in offensive rating and 16th in defensive rating when on the road, to 5th in offense and 17th in defense when at home.
However, if you look at their last five home games, the Blazers have the best defenses in the league. This is also a tough schedule spot for the Magic who are on a back-to-back after losing and failing to cover against the Kings last night and are playing their fourth game in six nights. Expect the Blazers to get a big win back at home.
My Pick: Trail Blazers -7.5
The Detroit Pistons (11-32 SU, 19-21-3 ATS, 25-17-1 O/U) and Philadelphia 76ers (24-15 SU, 23-16 ATS, 23-16 O/U) meet for the second game of a home and away mini-series.
The Sixers beat the Pistons 123-111 in Detroit on Sunday and now return home to Wells Fargo Center as 12.5-point favorites. This is a big spread but I'm happy to lay the points with the 76ers. Detroit will be without their leading scorer Bojan Bogdanovic, who has been the subject of trade talks over the last few days, and Jalen Duren. With Cade Cunningham and Marvin Bagley III already out, the Pistons' rotation is going to be pretty thin tonight and points are going to come at a premium. Isaiah Livers could return tonight, but that doesn't move the needle much for me.
On the Sixers side, Joel Embiid is listed as questionable tonight. Whether he plays or not, Philly should be able to handle Detroit for the third and final time this season. Lay the points with the Sixers!
My Pick: 76ers -12.5
