With Kevin Durant out, James Harden is going to get a ton of offensive usage against the Wizards on Wednesday.
Kyrie Irving will also be a key part of Brooklyn's offense, but the traditional point guard spot is Harden's. After all, he's not a part-time player like Irving, has averaged 12.4 assists over his last five games and has averaged a ridiculous 21.3 potential assists over his last five contests.
With 18.5 potential assists per game on average (2nd-most in NBA) this season, Harden is one of the NBA's best facilitators and will not only have Irving as a recipient of his passes. LaMarcus Aldridge is back from injury, as is James Johnson. Both veterans are important potential sources of scoring, along with Patty Mills and a few other consistent role players.
While Irving can take some of the pressure off of Harden's back when they're both on the court, Harden's one-of-a-kind ability to penetrate into the lane and kick it to wide-open teammates has been on display for quite some time. There's essentially nobody that can match up against him one-on-one and he's an expert at causing defenses to switch, hedge and get off-balanced and therefore out of a set position.
When defenses then collapse on him in the lane or double him on the perimeter, he's an expert at finding his teammates in advantageous situations.
I wouldn't be shocked if he records 15 assists in this matchup.
