The last time these two teams met, the Hornets scored 51 points in the first quarter, tying the NBA’s record for most first-quarter points. That also set a franchise record for most points scored in any quarter. Charlotte dominated Milwaukee in nearly every facet of that game and I’ll guarantee that’s not something Giannis Antetokounmpo has forgotten. Not to mention, Giannis only had nine points and four rebounds in that game. Because of that, I anticipate a much better start from the Bucks this time around. They’ve been one of the best first-quarter teams ATS this season, while the Hornets are the worst in the league to start games. The Bucks also lead the league in offensive efficiency in the opening frame when playing at home compared to the Hornets, whose offense ranks 27th on the road.
After sitting out last night against the Nets, both LeBron James and Anthony Davis are expected back for this matchup against the Knicks, who have gone just 9-14-2 ATS at Madison Square Garden this season. The Knicks have a proven inability to close the door on opponents, even if they have a double-digit lead, and they also own the 24th-ranked Defensive Rating at home this year. I’m going to roll with LeBron, AD and L.A. to redeem themselves on TNT after a heartbreaking ending to their last primetime game against the Celtics in which they were robbed of a win.
The Cavaliers are 17-8 ATS at home this season after covering in four of their last six home games, and are 22-16 ATS as the favorites. Meanwhile, the Heat have failed to cover in four of their last five games, and are just 19-29 ATS this season. Plus, when the Cavaliers and Heat faced off in November, the Cavaliers won, 113-87, so I think they can get the best of the Heat once again and cover this spread.
