Dan Karpuc: Yankees -1.5 vs. Guardians
This is a solid pitching matchup, as Cleveland’s ace Shane Bieber (13-8, 2.88 ERA) will toe the rubber against New York’s Nestor Cortes (12-4, 2.44 ERA). Both of these bullpens were also sensational during the regular season, as the Yankees ranked third with a 2.97 ERA while the Guardians ranked fifth with a 3.05 ERA. However, New York should have an edge at the plate in this specific matchup, if you’re a believer in BvP data (like I am ... if there’s enough of a sample size). Active Yankees players have slashed .294/.385/.618 in 68 career at-bats against Bieber and have slammed six home runs off of him. That’s significant. Meanwhile, active Guardians hitters have slashed .118/.167/.294 against Cortes in 34 at-bats (4-for-34). That’s less significant, but still noteworthy. While Bieber can shut down any lineup if he’s clicking, Yankee Stadium’s design caters perfectly to their lineup that consists of a ton of long-ball threats. Give me the Bronx Bombers to live up to their name and cover the run line in Game 2.

Lucy Burdge: Dodgers ML -125 at Padres
It’ll be Dodgers RHP Tony Gonsolin up against Padres LHP Blake Snell in this NLDS Game 3 and I see the Dodgers getting a massive win over the Padres here. Yes, Gonsolin is still recovering from an injury, but in the last two games he faced the Padres, he got the win and only gave up one total run in 12.2 innings combined. A trend in favor of the Dodgers to win is that the team is 46-17 SU vs. a starting pitcher who strikes out five or more batters per start this season, so I think the Dodgers can get the win and pull ahead in this series.

Brad Pinkerton: Braves-Phillies Over 6.5
NLDS Game 3 could very well could be a pitchers duel between the Phillies' Aaron Nola and the Braves' Spencer Strider, but the trends suggest otherwise. Atlanta, which is the slight underdog in Philly, is 43-33 O/U on the road this season, including 15-7 O/U as road 'dogs, the highest over rate in the majors. Meanwhile, the Phillies have leaned to the over all season, especially as home favorites (35-28). These NL East rivals are also 13-7 O/U against each other this season. Plus, Nola has been a mixed bag against the Braves this season, tossing six scoreless innings against them in a win on Sept. 23 after giving up 13 earned runs in his previous three starts (20 innings) against them. While this may not necessarily feel like a high-scoring game, I think these teams combine for at least seven runs today.
