The start of the MLB season is just around the corner finally and it will be the start of some promising careers for this year's crop of rookies.
There's some major potential in this rookie class so it's a perfect time to take a look at the odds for which players are favored to win AL and NL Rookie of the Year, as well as some dark horses in the mix.
Bobby Witt Jr. | +330 |
Spencer Torkelson | +450 |
Adley Rutschman | +500 |
Julio Rodriguez | +750 |
Shane Baz | +900 |
Oneil Cruz | +350 |
Seiya Suzuki | +759 |
Keibert Ruiz | +782 |
Joey Bart | +850 |
Hunter Greene | +900 |
Bobby Witt Jr. is the pretty decent favorite here to win AL Rookie of the Year and the Royals shortstop has a lot going for him. He was selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2019 draft and in his first professional season in both Double-A and Triple-A he had 33 home runs and 35 doubles. And in his Triple-A at-bats, he only struck out 22.5 percent of time. So he is primed to really make a name for himself in The Show this season.

A newbie sleeper you should take a close look at Julio Rodriguez. The Mariners stud hit a three-run home run in his first Cactus League at-bat last week, so his Major League career is certainly starting off with a bang. Not only was it just any home run, it was a 431-foot bomb, so this is absolutely a player to keep an eye on for this honor.
Oneil Cruz is going to be a star, so it's fitting that he is favored to win NL Rookie of the Year. The Pirates No. 3 prospect has already hit two home runs this spring. Last season in 70 games across three levels, he had a batting average of .311 with 18 home runs and 19 stolen bases. I have a feeling the Oneil Cruz brand will only get stronger this year.

If you're looking for a player for this award with a bit longer odds, Hunter Greene is a solid choice to consider. The Reds pitcher had a very strong first outing of spring training in which he came into the game in the fifth inning, faced four batters and struck out two. Of the 17 pitches he threw, 10 of them were strikes. Plus, he reached 101 mph, so this guy is definitely a player to keep an eye on as the season gets going.
