Zac Gallen +1800 At DraftKings

There is a good chance that you didn't pay much attention to the Diamondbacks this season unless you are a fan of the team, and let's be honest, even then it was probably a struggle. Arizona was pretty bad yet again, and they even sold off some of their pieces before the trade deadline in-season.

However, one name that they kept around for this upcoming year is pitcher Zac Gallen, who was easily the best player on the team at the end of the season. It's unlikely they will be making any noise in the postseason, but that really doesn't matter when discussing the chances of a player winning the Cy Young. In fact, three of the last five NL Cy Young winners came from teams who missed the postseason, including Sandy Alcantara from the 93-loss Marlins this past season.

Gallen was spectacular during last year's losing efforts, especially in the second half of the season. He made 14 starts with a 1.49 ERA. In three of those starts, he racked up at least 11 strikeouts without walking a single batter in the game. He also had a scoreless streak of 44.1 innings en route to a fifth-place finish for NL Cy Young in 2022. Among qualified NL pitchers, his full-season 0.913 WHIP was the lowest in the entire field. That is a field that includes guys like Alcantara, Corbin Burnes, Max Scherzer, Aaron Nola, and Zack Wheeler. So, you could say that he was in pretty good company, and he was even the best out of that company.

This shouldn't be a shock to anyone, however. Gallen has consistently been one of the best pitchers in the league, he just goes under the radar. Between 2019 and 2020, Gallen made 27 starts with a 2.78 ERA and a 10.5 K/9. It isn't like he is a one-season wonder. This could finally be the year that he wins the Cy Young, and we have the opportunity to grab him at a decent price of +1800 right now at DraftKings. I like that number for a guy who is sure to be the best player on his team in 2023 and will be the only one possibly to represent them in the All-Star game.
