2023 MLB Futures: Best Bets For New York Yankees

Aaron Judge may have had a record-setting season in 2022, but the Bronx Bombers failed to win a title yet again. Will 2023 finally be their year?

New York Yankees Futures Bets

The 2023 MLB season begins on March 29 and BetQL is your one-stop shop for daily best bets, expert picks, public data, written analysis, and more from the first pitch to the last. Before the season begins, we're going through all 30 teams, detailing futures to target for every club and touching on some of the most intriguing storylines from around the league.

Three major rule changes will come into play this year, as a pitch timer, shift restrictions and bigger bases will be introduced. The pitch timer helped reduce game length by 25 minutes in the minors last year, shift restrictions increased batting average and decreased strikeouts, and bigger bases not only improved player safety but resulted in more steals and a better product. These changes can and most likely will have major on-field impacts, which makes predicting outcomes even more difficult in 2023.

Let’s take a look at the 2023 Yankees.

New York Yankees Roster

If there is one thing we know about the New York Yankees, it's that if they don't win the World Series at the end of a season, the wallet will be opening up. Since there is no such thing as a salary cap in MLB, the big market teams always have the advantage in free agency with their massive pocketbooks, and once again, that was the case this offseason. Not only did the Yankees manage to re-sign Aaron Judge, a move that would bankrupt most teams, they also went out and added pitchers Carlos Rodon and Tommy Kahnle to the mix, while retaining Anthony Rizzo at the same time. The power of the almighty dollar hasn't been as prevalent for the Yankees recently, however. Despite all of that money being spent year after year, they still haven't won a World Series in over a decade.

The regular lineup will be quite similar to the one they had last season. D.J. LeMahieu will remain manning third base and batting leadoff in all likelihood. Judge obviously will be doing his thing as he looks to somehow top his performance last season. As mentioned previously, the Yankees brought Rizzo back to man first base and bring another power bat to the lineup. Giancarlo Stanton will still be the regular DH, and he'll look to be more consistent. The often-criticized Gleyber Torres will be the man in the middle at second base, but he needs to prove himself to the organization and fans. I expect Oswaldo Cabrera to play left field, while Harrison Bader plays center. Catching should be Jose Trevino.

This would mean the Yankees made the smart decision to bench both Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. I don't think top prospect Anthony Volpe will be on the roster opening day, but he will be at some point.

The pitching rotation will be one of the very best in all of baseball, and it should be with the absolutely insane amount of money they have poured in here. Gerrit Cole will obviously be the ace yet again with his massive salary, and because he has been very good over the years. Cole was 13-8 with a 3.50 ERA in 33 starts last season, which is probably not worth the money he is making, but also not bad. Rodon will be inserted into the rotation and he has been incredible over the past few seasons. In 2022, Rodon was 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA in 31 starts, better than Cole. Nestor Cortes was perhaps the best pitcher in this rotation last season, going 12-4 with a 2.44 ERA in 28 starts. Luis Severino was fantastic with a 3.19 ERA, but needs to stay healthy. Finally, Domingo German will round out the rotation with his 3.61 ERA, the highest of all the starters. But, this unit is elite.

The bullpen will likely feature the aforementioned Kahnle, while also employing some mi of the following pitchers: Frankie Montas, Clarke Schmidt, Clay Holmes, Jonathan Loaisiga, Wandy Peralta, Lou Trivino, Ron Marinaccio, Michael King, Greg Weissert, Albert Abreu and Deivi Garcia.

New York Yankees Best Bets

Over 94.5 regular season wins (-110, BetMGM) is the only way to go here when it comes to the win total for the team. With the amount of money that is in this squad, if they don't win 100 games, it should be considered a failure of a regular season. That pitching rotation is incredible, with not a single starter over a 3.61 ERA last season, and should be the best in baseball if they can stay healthy. The lineup speaks for itself after last season; they led MLB with 254 HR, were one of just seven teams with 200+ homers, and also had an MLB-high 620 walks drawn. Top to bottom, they are loaded with talent and even more is to come with trades and call-ups looming.

Betting Judge to be the regular season HR leader at +600 on Caesars could also be a good bet at the number. As you know, he certainly can do that after he broke the all-time record last season.
