The Philadelphia Flyers have surprised a lot of people this year with their start to the season, considering how terrible they were projected to be coming into 2022. They are scoring an average of 4.00 GPG and allowing just 2.00 GPG early in the year, but for this game, they will be on the tail end of a back-to-back on a three-game road trip. Not an ideal spot, especially against the team that just won the President's trophy last season.

The Panthers have started the year 2-1, and that is pretty much par for the course about where we expected them to be. This is one of the most talented teams in hockey, and they have played like it so far. They are averaging 35.7 shots per game, which is incredible, and giving up 31.3 per game. Colin White has been the early surprise for Florida, and his play has just been another great addition to this already-stacked roster.

PICK: I like the Panthers at -1.5.

The Winnipeg Jets started their year with a huge win over the New York Rangers, but took a step back in their second game with a loss to the Dallas Stars on the road. Now they get to take on the defending champion Colorado Avalanche on the road. Yikes. Winnipeg does have talent, and they can certainly compete in this game, but Colorado is so good at home. Mark Scheifele will have to have a monster game for them to win, and even that may not be enough.

The Avalanche are just so good, and it is very hard to pick against them in almost any situation. Nathan MacKinnon is just unstoppable, and that offense is scoring close to five goals per game, just humming right along. Their biggest weakness, as it has been for a while now, is the defense and goaltending. They are allowing close to 30 shots per game, and giving up over 3.00 goals per game as well. It's always a high scoring affair with Colorado involved.

PICK: Give me the Avalanche -1.5.

The night cap for Wednesday features two teams that aren't expected to be very good in 2022. The St. Louis Blues have played just one game so far, well behind most teams in the league, and that was a 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The offense obviously looked great in that win, but this was a small sample size. Despite winning the game in blowout fashion, they ended up tied in SOGs with Columbus, so they really didn't dominate the play.

The Seattle Kraken were an expansion franchise in 2021, and like most expansion franchises outside of Vegas, that was expected. They have started out the year looking pretty bad as well, with a lackluster offense and an even worse defense. They do have some young talent that looks promising, like Andre Burakovsky, but this has the feel of another bad season in Seattle. It takes time to get up to speed in a sports league, so fans should be patient.

PICK: I'll take Seattle here at plus-money for value, as I don't feel the Blues are as good as Game 1 showed.
