Lightning at Oilers Prediction

We'll start things out north of the border in Canada, where the Tampa Bay Lightning will be traveling this evening to take on the Edmonton Oilers. While the Lightning haven't been as dominant this season as they have in previous campaigns, Tampa Bay still is one of the better teams in the NHL. Sitting at 29-13-1, the Lightning have built yet another impressive record in the Eastern Conference, scoring 3.63 goals per game and getting 32 shots on goal each night. Defensively, they allow just 2.86 goals per game and 30.7 shots on their own net each contest. Nikita Kucherov continues to be a monster, racking up 64 points and 46 assists this season so far.

But that is nothing compared to Connor McDavid, who is basically the modern-day Wayne Gretzky. He has a league-high 84 points, 20 points better than No. 2 Kucherov. McDavid has 38 goals and 46 assists and is easily the best player in hockey. Unfortunately, his team doesn't go far in the playoffs because of terrible goaltending. Case in point, Edmonton is allowing 3.26 goals per game and 32.2 shots on its net each game. The offense is great, but it's hard to overcome such bad net-minding.

MY PICK: Lightning +105. Both teams have excellent offenses, but only one has good goaltending. Sure, Tampa is on the road here, but I'll take the plus-money here.

Blackhawks at Flyers Prediction

The Philadelphia Flyers will look to defend their home ice against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks. While they are certainly terrible, Chicago has proven to be valuable at times this season against other bad teams. The Hawks are scoring just 2.33 goals per game and getting a very poor 26.6 shots on goal each contest. Defensively, they are awful, allowing 3.69 goals per game and 33.5 shots on their netminders.

However, the Flyers are also a pretty bad hockey team. They are scoring just 2.82 goals per game and only getting 29.9 shots of their own each night. Philly is also allowing 3.20 goals per game and 31.7 shots per contest, so they aren't exactly good anywhere themselves. They have won four of their last five games, however, just like Chicago has.

MY PICK: Blackhawks +195. There is just too much value here with the Blackhawks to pass up. The Flyers shouldn't be -225 favorites against anyone because they aren't a very good team. In a battle between two teams going nowhere, I'll take the plus-money.
