Wild at Stars Prediction

Yet another NHL sweeper yesterday with the Oilers -1.5 and Ducks ML giving us two plus-money wins. Let's do our best to keep that up and make another profit today, even if we have just two games on the slate.

Let's start in Dallas, where the Stars will be defending their home ice against the visiting Minnesota Wild. It's been a pretty successful season for both teams. The Wild are scoring 3.04 goals per game and allowing only 2.84. They are outshooting opponents on average 31.3 to 30.2. They have had some bad luck this season, but we are beginning to see them start to get some bounces with the puck.

Meanwhile, the Stars have also been enjoying a successful campaign. They are scoring 3.33 goals per game and allowing a very small 2.56 per contest. That's one of the better goal differentials in the NHL. In terms of shots, they are outshooting their opponents 32.1 to 30.9 on average, so they have done a good job controlling the puck and dominating time of possession.

MY PICK: Wild +120. I like both of these teams, and I think either one could win here. However, it's Minnesota who is offering the most value at the number. I'll take a shot with them at +120 because I don't think there is a huge difference between these two teams and perhaps this line is a bit high.

Canucks at Rangers Prediction

For the second and final game of the night, we'll head to New York, where we will see the Vancouver Canucks traveling to take on the hometown Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Vancouver has been one of the biggest disappointments in the NHL this year, scoring 3.32 goals per game, which is actually pretty good, but allowing a massive 3.94. The Canucks are being outshot 30.7 to 31.8 on average, so they haven't been able to gain the upper hand in puck possession most games.

The Rangers are finally starting to play like a squad capable of winning a Stanley Cup. They are scoring 3.20 goals per game and allowing just 2.62, a fantastic differential. Perhaps most impressive is their ability to control the puck, outshooting their opponents on average 32.8 to 29.5. Now it's time, in the second half of the season, to show that they are truly a force to be taken seriously.

MY PICK: Rangers -1.5. I like the Canucks on offense, but they just traded their leading goal scorer in Bo Horvat, and I think that unit takes a step back. Their goaltending is still terrible, and New York should be able to put a hefty number on the board. I'll take the Rangers -1.5 at plus-money.
