Maple Leafs at Sabres Prediction

Let's start the week out in Buffalo, where the Sabres will defend home ice against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Sabres are a team that I have not been able to get a clear read on this season, and I still have a hard time judging them. Buffalo plays so well at times that you think it can be a serious contender, but then the Sabres have a few games where they absolutely stink. Picking spots is the best way to bet them. They are scoring 3.70 goals per game and allowing 3.44. In terms of shots, they are being outshot slightly, 32.5 to 32.4.

I'm much more sure about Toronto. The Maple Leafs are a true contender for the Stanley Cup, despite the stereotype against them that they choke in big spots. This team is scoring 3.40 goals per game and allowing just 2.65. They are also outshooting opponents 32.4 to 29.0 per game.

MY PICK: Maple Leafs -1.5. The ML doesn't offer any value here with the Leafs, so we are taking a shot that they win by 2+ at +145 odds on DraftKings. The Sabres I've noticed seem to be a team that thrive against bad teams. That is clearly not the case here, and I think the superior defense and goaltending of the Maple Leafs will keep Buffalo in check as the offense takes it to the bad defense of the Sabres.

Red Wings at Capitals Prediction

There are a few options on the board that I was looking at, but I believe this game gives us the most value for a bet I like tonight. The Detroit Red Wings are in the nation's capital to take on Washington. Nothing about the Wings is impressive to me besides how they managed to have a winning record at this point in the season. They have somehow won four of their last five games and continue to astound me. Detroit not only has a negative goal differential, scoring 3.09 goals per game and allowing 3.20, but they also have a negative shot differential. The Wings are being outshot 31 to 28.9 each game on average.

Washington is the exact opposite. The Caps have lost four of their last five games despite having a positive goal and shot differential. The Caps are scoring 3.00 goals per game and allowing 2.90, while also outshooting their opponents 31.4 to 30.3.

MY PICK: Capitals -1.5. The ML here is a little juicy for me at -150, so I'll take a shot with the puckline. We are getting +170 odds at DraftKings on Washington to win by 2+ and, to me, they are the much better team. Detroit is one of the most fraudulent teams in the NHL, in my opinion, and I'll fade the Wings here.
