Panthers at Blues Prediction

The NHL slate is rather large today, so there is value all over the place. Let's head to St. Louis for our first game of the night, where the Florida Panthers will be traveling north to take on the Blues. As I have been saying, I am not giving up on the Panthers in the second half. They have won four of their last five games, and it is starting to look like they are finally playing up to their capabilities. Florida finally has a positive goal differential, scoring 3.43 goals per game and allowing 3.39. Their shot differential has always been impressive, outshooting opponents on average 36.1 to 32.6.

The Blues were always going to be a fade for me over the second half, and they have lost four of their last five. Despite almost being .500 on the season, this is a team that has both a negative shot and goal differential. They are scoring 3.06 goals per game but allowing 3.64, while also being outshot on average 31.8 to 28.9. This isn't a good hockey team.

MY PICK: Panthers -120 (BetRivers). This is just an outrageous number to me. Florida is far better than St. Louis in my opinion, and I really thought we would have to take them -1.5. However, -120 isn't that steep of a price, and I will gladly lay that with the Panthers here just to win the game.

Senators at Islanders Prediction

For our second game of the night, let's head over to New York, where we see the Ottawa Senators taking on the Islanders. Ottawa wasn't one of my best bets yesterday, but I did like them at some good plus-money against the Flames, and they came through with a win. While they are on a back-to-back tonight, there is just again too much value here to fade them.

I wrote an entire article on why I will be backing the Senators over the second half, and I am making good on that word. They are outshooting their opponents 33.4 to 32.0, controlling the ice for the most part. Their goal differential has to get better, scoring 3.02 goals per game and allowing 3.23, but I believe it will. Most teams that are taking as many shots as Ottawa are scoring at the very least 3.25 goals per game, so I think the goals will come.

The Islanders have been a team that I have backed over the last few years, but not in 2023. I haven't liked what I have seen from them as a whole, relying far to much on their great goaltending. They are scoring 2.89 goals per game and allowing 2.71, but are getting outshot on average 31.6 to 30.6.

MY PICK: Senators +178 (Caesars). This is some really good value here with the better team, in my opinion. Yes, the Sens are on a back-to-back, but I can't pass up this number on Ottawa.
