Blue Jackets at Flames Prediction

Let's start out with one of my favorite plays of the night, and that is in Calgary, where the Flames will be at home facing off against the Columbus Blue Jackets. It's been a very poor season for the Jackets so far, and when I say poor, I mean very bad. This was a team that had hopes of competing after it signed Johnny Gaudreau from these same Flames, but it's been nothing but a disaster. Columbus scores just 2.46 goals per game and gets 29.0 shots on goal each time out, two of the worst marks in the NHL. The defense and goaltending have been even worse, allowing a whopping 3.87 goals per game and 34.8 shots each contest.

Calgary is one of my favorite teams to back for the second half of the season after a rough start. They have only been scoring 3.09 goals per game, but they are peppering the opponent's net, averaging 35.1 shots per game. Goals will start to come for them with that much offensive pressure. They also only allow 27.8 shots per game, so the puck possession has been way in their favor for the most part.

MY PICK: Flames -1.5. Calgary should have no problem taking care of business at home against a Columbus team that gives up goals like almost no other team in the NHL. The offensive pressure of the Flames should overwhelm the Blue Jackets.

Panthers at Rangers Prediction

For our last game of the night, let's head to Madison Square Garden, where the New York Rangers will try to fight off the Florida Panthers. I've talked a bit about how I like the Panthers in the second half of the season just like I do the Flames, and they have started to turn themselves around recently. Florida has won four of the last five games, and the wagon is starting to roll again. This is a team that gets 35.3 shots on goal per game, one of the highest numbers in the league, and they also score 3.38 goals per game. The problem has been the defense, where they allow 31.9 shots per game. They have started to get that in check, so hopefully they can continue to do so while keeping up the great offense.

I also think highly of the Rangers, who are scoring 3.11 goals per game on 32.9 shots per game. I think they are one of the better teams in the East, and they are very hard to beat at home, so the Panthers will have to have their A-game.

MY PICK: Panthers +115. I just like the value here with Florida. Both teams are talented and very good, in my opinion, but I'm taking plus-money with the Panthers, who could very well win the game.
