NHL Odds, Predictions For Feb. 24

Unfortunately, for the first time in well over a week, we had a day where we lost both bets here on the NHL Betting Guide. The Rangers got crushed by the Red Wings, who continue to absolutely dumbfound me, and the Flames blew a 3-1 lead in the third period to send us into the red. It happens, and you can't let it get to you. We are down about 1.35 units now on the week, so let's get that back today with a sweeper to end the week in the green.

Wild at Maple Leafs Prediction

Let's start in Toronto, where the Minnesota Wild will be traveling to take on the Maple Leafs. Both of these teams have been pretty good this season, especially Toronto, which has been pretty dominant. The Leafs are scoring 3.45 goals per game and allowing just 2.66, while also outshooting their opponents on average, 32.3 to 29.0. This is a great team on both ends of the ice, and they are tough to beat at home.

The Wild aren't as impressive as the Maple Leafs this year, but they are still a good team that is certainly capable of winning in Toronto. They are scoring just 2.84 goals per game, but also are allowing a small 2.74 per contest as well. In terms of shots, the Wild are outshooting opponents on average, 31.1 to 30.2.

MY PICK: Wild ML (+180, PointsBet). The Maple Leafs are the better team, but I just think it is hard to pass up on a number like this at PointsBet. We are getting huge plus-money here on a team with a 32-21-5 record and a positive goal and shot differential. It won't be easy, but the value is just too large here not to back the Wild as opposed to laying a huge number.

Senators at Hurricanes Prediction

Let's head down to Carolina for the second game of the day, where we see the Hurricanes attempting to defend their home ice against the Ottawa Senators. I continue to be a believer in this Senators team, and I think they can make a playoff push in the second half. Despite their negative goal differential, scoring 3.04 goals per game and allowing 3.20, they also have been outplaying their opponents more often than not. Ottawa is outshooting their opposition 33.3 to 32.3 on average, despite the losses that have come.

The Hurricanes are one of the best teams in the NHL, and have won four straight headed into this one. They are scoring 3.38 goals per game and allowing just 2.59, one of the best goal differentials in the league. Carolina is also outshooting their opponents 34.9 to 26.5, which is again one of the best in all of hockey.

MY PICK: Senators ML (+215, DraftKings). Given all of that, it seems insane of me to take the Sens, but that is what I am going to do. We are getting a huge plus-money number on Ottawa to win this game, over 2/1 odds on a single hockey game. Not only that, but it isn't like the Senators are a terrible team either. They are 27-25-4 with a positive shot differential. This number is more representative of an underdog like the Ducks or Coyotes, so this is great value for Ottawa.
