NHL Picks & Predictions For Today's Games

Stars at Blues Prediction

For our first game of the night, the Dallas Stars will be traveling to take on the St. Louis Blues. The Stars can jump the Avalanche for third in the West with a win here, so they will be trying to win this game. Dallas is scoring 3.43 goals per game and allowing 2.66, while also outshooting their opponents 31.8 to 30.1 on average. They have won four straight games coming into this game.

I've been a Blues fader for pretty much the entire season, and now that they have officially been eliminated from the playoffs, I feel pretty great. St. Louis is scoring 3.23 goals per game and allowing 3.65, while also getting outshot by their opponents on average 32.3 to 28.7. They have lost three of their last five games as the ship disappears under the water.

MY PICK: Stars -1.5 (+158, Caesars). As mentioned, the Blues have been eliminated, so they have nothing to play for tonight. The Stars can still get a better seed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so they will be incentivized to win this game. Dallas is the far better team anyway, so give me them to win by 2+ at a very good plus-money number.

Sharks at Flames Prediction

In our second game of the night, the San Jose Sharks travel to Calgary to take on the Flames. Both teams have been eliminated from playoff contention, so there are no stakes in this game. The Sharks should try and tank this game for a better draft position, as they still have a shot at a top-three pick. San Jose is scoring 2.88 goals per game and allowing 3.84, while getting outshot by their opponents 31.9 to 29.5 on average.

Perhaps the most disappointing team in the NHL this season, the Flames could be one of the best teams in hockey if you go by their numbers. Instead, they have been eliminated from postseason contention. Calgary is scoring 3.14 goals per game and allowing 3.04, while also outshooting their opponents 35.8 to 27.4 on average. That is a better shot differential than the Bruins, Devils, Maple Leafs, Golden Knights, Oilers, Rangers, Avalanche, and almost every playoff team in 2023. Yet, here they are.

MY PICK: Flames -1.5 (+102, BetRivers). I'm just so puzzled by the Flames this season. They have to be the biggest enigma in recent years, constantly out-performing opponents, yet losing a lot of those games. Calgary should destroy San Jose here, but you just never know with this team.

Canadiens at Islanders Prediction

For our last pick of the night, the Montreal Canadiens hit the road to take on the New York Islanders. Montreal was eliminated long ago from the playoffs, so they have nothing to play for except to spoil the Islanders' playoff hopes. The Canadiens are scoring 2.76 goals per game and allowing 3.70, while being outshot by opponents 33.7 to 27.3. They have lost four of their last five games heading into this one.

This is a must-win for the Islanders essentially, as they can lock up their playoff spot with a win here over a bad opponent. A loss leaves the door open for the Pittsburgh Penguins to steal that away, so they have to win this game. New York is scoring 2.94 goals per game and allowing 2.65, but they are getting outshot on average 31.2 to 30.7 by opponents.

MY PICK: Canadiens ML (+300, FanDuel). I would absolutely love to see this happen, so I'm going to bet on it. Not only are we are getting 3/1 odds on a single hockey game outcome, but I also hate the Islanders. This team is a massive fraud and I will enjoy fading them in the playoffs if they do in fact make it in. We saw the Blackhawks play spoiler against the Penguins just last night, so why not the Canadiens over a team that I think isn't very good?
