NHL Picks & Predictions For Today's Games

Hurricanes at Red Wings Prediction

Starting the night out in Michigan, we see the Carolina Hurricanes visiting Detroit to take on the Red Wings. As most know, the Hurricanes are one of the best teams in hockey this season, and they have proven that with a fantastic 47-17-9 record. However, they have lost two straight, so they are due to get back on track. Carolina is scoring 3.25 goals per game and allowing 2.58, while outshooting their opponents 34.8 to 26.1 on average.

The Red Wings have finally been exposed as the frauds they are after overachieving for most of the season. They have lost three of their last five games, and have dropped to 32-32-9 on the season. That’s actually impressive when you take a look at their stats, and they have been quite lucky most of the year. Detroit is scoring 2.92 goals per game and allowing 3.27, while also being outshot by their opponents on average 30.4 to 28.7.

MY PICK: Hurricanes -1.5 (+120, PointsBet). Carolina has lost two straight, and I don’t see them going on a three-game losing streak. They are far better than Detroit, and I think they bounce back in a big way tonight. You can get some decent plus money here for them to win by 2+.

Ducks at Kraken Prediction

For our second pick of the evening, we’ll head to Seattle, where we see the Anaheim Ducks traveling up the coast to take on the Kraken. The Ducks are one of the very worst teams in the NHL, and that is shown in their awful 23-41-10 record. They are especially bad on the road, where their defense is just swiss cheese. Anaheim is scoring 2.53 goals per game and allowing an insane 4.04, while also getting massively outshot by their opponents 39.1 to 28.5. They have also lost five straight games.

The Kraken are enjoying a great sophomore year after a terrible first season. They are 40-25-8 on the season, but they have lost three of their last five games. I expect a great effort tonight at home against a bad team. Seattle is scoring 3.48 goals per game and allowing 3.18, while also outshooting their opponents 30.4 to 27.4.

MY PICK: Kraken -1.5 (-140, DraftKings). I hate to lay this type of price, and I usually never do, so be cautious here. However, this is a huge mismatch that favors the Kraken in a big way. Anaheim is awful on the road, while Seattle needs to get back to their winning ways.

Capitals at Lightning Prediction

Our last pick of the night brings us to Florida, where the Washington Capitals will be traveling to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. We took the Caps last night and they let us down by losing in a shootout, and their season is now officially on the brink after losing four of their last five. They will need to play all-out for the remainder of the season if they want to sniff the playoffs, and that could give us an opportunity. Washington is scoring 3.13 goals per game and allowing 3.05, while outshooting their opponents on average 31.4 to 30.6.

The Lightning are good, but they simply can’t be trusted. They have had quite a few stinkers down the stretch, like their recent loss to the Canadiens, and have also lost four of their last five games. Tampa Bay is scoring 3.39 goals per game and allowing 3.04, while also outshooting their opponents 31.9 to 31.2 on average.

MY PICK: Capitals ML (+180, PointsBet). Two teams that have both lost four of their last five games, but only one of them is truly desperate for a win. This also is some serious value, as the stats say that these two teams aren’t all that different from each other. At a whopping +180, I’ll take a shot against a shaky Lightning squad.
