Jets at Canadiens Prediction

Let's start with a matchup north of the border, where the Winnipeg Jets take on the Montreal Canadiens in Canada. Winnipeg is a team that I will be looking to fade a lot down the stretch because I think it is one of the "frauds" in the NHL. This is a team that gets just 29.8 shots on net per game and allows 31 shots on its own net. That tells me that the Jets are frequently getting outplayed on the ice, and their goaltending is constantly bailing them out. They are allowing 2.59 goals per game, which is a great number. However, regression is coming if they keep getting outplayed.

The Canadiens stink, I'm not going to lie. However, I just think there is value here at this number. Montreal is allowing a massive 33.9 shots per game and 3.68 goals per game. The offense stinks, too, scoring just 2.55 goals per game and getting 28.0 shots on net. They aren't good at all, but neither is Winnipeg, in my opinion.

MY PICK: Canadiens +210. I'll enjoy fading Winnipeg because, at some point, the Jets will start losing. They are not as good as their record seems, and this is good value here on the home team.

Sabres at Blackhawks Prediction

For our second pick of the day, we're headed to Chicago, where the Buffalo Sabres will be visiting the Blackhawks. Buffalo has looked horrendous lately, losing four of its last five games while giving up four goals in every loss. The Sabres are allowing 33.2 shots on their net per game, so it's no wonder why they are allowing a huge 3.48 goals per game. The offense has been great, scoring 3.79 goals per game and getting 32.2 shots on goal per game.

The Blackhawks are perhaps the worst team in the league, and their short, three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end against the unstoppable Kraken last time out. They are scoring just 2.29 goals per game and allowing 3.71, while getting outshot on average 26.6 to 33.5.

MY PICK: Blackhawks +155. I can't believe I'm taking the Blackhawks here, but the value is just too good. Buffalo has started on a downward spiral, and while Chicago stinks, I'll take the +155.
