Best NHL Prop Bets For Wednesday, Oct. 12

Wednesday’s NHL action is headlined by three fierce, old-school rivalries, all of which have some solid prop bets to consider.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Montreal Canadiens, 7 p.m. ET

Maple Leafs To Win and Under 6.5 goals (+195)

The Toronto Maple Leafs begin their 2022-23 campaign in Montreal against their most loathed rivals. The Canadiens are touted to be one of the worst teams in the league this season but often showcase their best against the Maple Leafs.

Each team won two of four head-to-head games a year ago, with neither losing a home contest. While Toronto should break the trend of home teams winning, the game will be more tight checking than many envision.

Of their four head-to-head contests last season, only one – a 5-2 Canadiens win at the Bell Centre – resulted in more than six goals. Look for the Maple Leafs to succeed in a game that sees under 6.5 goals.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers, 10 p.m. ET

Which Team Will Be the First To Reach 3 Goals?: Edmonton Oilers (-125)

While there isn’t tons of value in the bet, it’s a strong favorite to get behind. The Edmonton Oilers welcome the Canucks to Rogers Place, where they beat the Canucks 3-2 twice during the 2021-22 season.

In addition, the Oilers scored 3.48 goals per game last season, the league’s seventh most. Connor McDavid notched two assists in the 2021-22 season opener against the Canucks and followed up that performance with a hat trick against the Flames.

Historically, he and Leon Draisaitl are fast starters, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them get off to another cracker. The Oilers also have Evander Kane at their disposal, another weapon looking to start where he left off in the 2021-22 playoffs.

Boston Bruins vs. Washington Capitals, 7:30 p.m. ET

Capitals To Win and Under 6.5 Goals (+190)

The Capitals welcome the Bruins on opening night in a head-to-head battle which saw tons of goals last season. Two of their three 2021-22 encounters resulted in at least seven goals, with one seeing 10.

However, it’s the season opener, and some changes are afoot. Darcy Kuemper will get the nod in goal for the Caps, while Bruins’ maestro and menace Brad Marchand is out for an extended period recovering from hip surgery.

In addition, the home side is without Carl Hagelin, Tom Wilson, and Nicklas Backstrom, all of whom are also sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Those absences and Kuemper’s presence in goal should ensure the game is lower scoring than most previous encounters. So look for the Caps to win with under 6.5 combined goals.
