2024 NHL All-Star Weekend: Best Bets and Values

The first half of the 2023/24 NHL season has come to an end, and what a first half it was. The BetQL model has been cashing tickets left and right as it usually does, and subscribers are getting all the benefits of it. If you aren't subscribed to us, take this as your sign to start making some extra money.

We'll be turning our attention to the second half of the season and the push to the Stanley Cup Playoffs here soon, but first, the NHL holds its All-Star weekend.

There is plenty to bet on here, and like most All-Star games, it's all in good fun. That means that you shouldn't be betting much money on it because the players may or may not put much effort into it. Still, it is fun to watch and is the best All-Star event of the four major sports, in my humble opinion. Why not throw some beer or pizza money on a couple of things to make it more interesting?

NHL All-Star Skills Competition Prop Bets

Hardest Shot: Elias Pettersson +175

Petterson won this event last season, and there is no reason to think that his competition this year is going to beat him. He's been a top contender in this event for years, ever since his 2020 102.4 mph shot that put him on the map as a rookie. I like to pick players that have shown they care about these events and aren't just there on vacation. Most of the time, these are younger players instead of established superstars. Pettersson is a veteran now, but still young enough that I think he will want to defend his title here.

Shot Accuracy: Quinn Hughes +1200

This event is extremely hard to handicap, mostly because it is very volatile and has a lot of variance involved. You can't just pick a superstar and expect them to get it done, as everyone has been able to win this event at some point or another. We have even seen defensemen win this event, guys who usually don't take many shots. Due to how random this is, I always like to take someone with long odds to win it. Hughes is getting huge 12/1 odds here and I think he has just as good of a chance as anyone does to win. Brock Nelson won it last season at +1100 odds. Just pick someone with long odds in this event and hope for the best.

Fastest Skater: Cale Makar +450

Connor McDavid is the massive favorite here, as he has won this event three times already and is clearly the fastest skater. However, I'm not so sure how much he cares to win the event a fourth time. Matthew Barzel has the second-best odds, and he managed to beat McDavid a couple of years ago because I think McDavid didn't go full speed. But I'm not sure how much Barzel will care about winning it again, either. Makar has never won it, but has participated before. I think he will have the most motivation here to win the event, so I'll take his +450 odds to do so.

NHL All-Star Game Odds & Picks

NHL All-Star Game Winner: Team Hughes +300

These games are always extremely high-scoring because, like most All-Star games, no one cares about defense. Everyone is just having fun and it is a fantasy draft, so the teams are all mixed up with random players from different conferences. Honestly, it is very random and who knows who will actually try and who will mail it in. Therefore, I'll take the team with the longest odds, which happens to be team Hughes. Funny enough, Jack Hughes (who the team is named after), won't be playing due to injury. However, their celebrity captain is Michael Buble, so they automatically win in my book. I'll fade the crap out of Justin Bieber and the favorite Team Matthews.

NHL All-Star Game MVP: Nathan MacKinnon +1000

MacKinnon is the favorite for the real MVP, so why not have him add to his hardware by taking All-Star Game MVP? Again, this is just who cares enough to shoot the puck a million times.
