As the Jets take on the Texans this Thursday, we’re diving into some player prop picks that offer intriguing value. From Aaron Rodgers’ passing yards to Garrett Wilson’s reception count, and Xavier Hutchinson’s receiving yards, here are our top picks for this Week 9 showdown.
Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Under 234.5 Passing Yards vs. Texans (-115, BetRivers)
In case you missed it, Rodgers announced that he found the “fountain of youth”. As in: a drink that he calls the fountain of youth. What is this drink? Cayenne pepper and hot water. Jets fans shouldn’t worry - the team may be 2-6, but things could be very different for Rodgers this week, especially since he’s been drinking this potion to prepare for Week 9. (I’m joking.) With five straight losses heading into this game, I expect New York to try something different and feed their running backs the football. Rodgers has gone over this number in half of his starts this season so far and Houston’s pass defense is elite - they have allowed an average of just 164.3 passing yards per game so far this year.
However, if you want to go over 1.5 passing touchdowns like our Nick Ashooh, you could always tail him - but he might have been influenced by the fountain of youth. Watch below!
Jets WR Garrett Wilson Over 4.5 Receptions vs. Texans (-173, FanDuel)
Wilson leads the NFL with 84 targets so far this year and for context, that’s 11 more than the next-highest mark (Malik Nabers with 73). This is at 5.5 at pretty much every other book, but I’ll grab the juiced up line at 4.5 on FanDuel instead for a pretty simple reason: Wilson has gone over 4.5 receptions in seven of his eight starts and over 5.5 receptions in three of his eight starts. Catching 51 of 84 passes doesn’t exactly paint a pretty picture for his connection with Aaron Rodgers, but with Davante Adams starting alongside him, Wilson should continue to be peppered with targets, especially in single coverage, which Rodgers identifies with ease.
Texans WR Xavier Hutchinson Over 19.5 Receiving Yards vs. Jets (-110, BetMGM)
With Stefon Diggs and Nico Collins out, the obvious focus for New York’s defense will be Tank Dell. We all know that and I expect New York’s defense to plan accordingly. A pivot would be tight end Dalton Schultz, but he’s priced up to where I’m a bit uncomfortable. Instead, I want to target someone who should see the overwhelming majority of snaps and see time in the slot with a low bar to surpass.
That would be Hutchinson, who played 62% of the snaps last week and over 50% of the snaps in three of the last four weeks. Unlike Robert Woods and John Metchie III (two other options in the passing game that should see some playing time), Hutchinson seemingly has the trust of the coaching staff and this should be the biggest opportunity of his young career. He stepped up and made a couple clutch plays over the last couple games and he should be able to surpass this number with a couple catches.
