For Week 9’s Thursday Night Football matchup, we’re diving into high-value anytime touchdown sleeper picks between the Texans and Jets. With some familiar faces missing in action, players like Braelon Allen, Dare Ogunbowale, and Cade Stover offer intriguing odds to find the end zone. Here’s a closer look at each pick and why they could make an impact in the red zone.
Jets RB Braelon Allen To Score A Touchdown (+430, FanDuel)
Allen played 18 snaps against the Patriots and got a carry on 12 of them, amassing just 32 yards, but found the endzone for a touchdown. Interestingly, he’s been used nearly exclusively on short-yardage situations, but his 12 carries were a career-high and could be something to watch heading into this matchup against the Texans on a short week. He had two redzone touches last week and I think he’s going to continue to see plenty of opportunities to show that he belongs in the NFL and can show bursts of explosiveness that made him one of the best college running backs ever. At +430, I love this option.
Texans RB Dare Ogunbowale To Score A Touchdown (+650, FanDuel)
With wideouts Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs both out, this should be a big Joe Mixon workload. In fact, his “number of carries” total is 20.5, which is one of the largest I’ve seen this season. With that being said, Mixon might need more rest than usual and Ogunbowale will back him up since Dameon Pierce is still out with an injury of his own. Most known for his pass-catching abilities (23 carries, 58 yards vs. 15 catches, 155 yards and a TD in 2024), I can see him getting some work in this one. He has seen no less than 13 offensive snaps all season long, has played in every game and has a lone receiving touchdown to this point, but this could be an opportunity to get some meaningful snaps in key situations.
Texans TE Cade Stover To Score A Touchdown (+1300, FanDuel)
Stover hasn’t caught a touchdown yet in his rookie season, but is coming off a career-high three targets against the Colts last week, where he caught two passes (tied a career-high) for 19 yards. Primarily used as a blocker, Stover has played 195 snaps this season, notably 48% or more in each of the last three weeks. With Collins and Diggs out, we could see more two or three tight end sets from Houston’s offense this week with a focus on Joe Mixon and the running game and if that happens, I expect a season-high snap count for the former Ohio State standout. At +1300, I’d rather play this than try to guess which second or third string wideout might 1. be on the field and 2. have the trust of the coaching staff and Stroud.
