Arizona Cardinals Preview

The Cardinals actually played a competitive game against a really good unbeaten team in Week 5, which is something that they haven't done very often under head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Unfortunately for them, a missed kick added another check to the loss column for Arizona, and now they are tied with the Seattle Seahawks at 2-3 in the NFC West. That isn't a great sign for Kingsbury, who is already on the hot seat after last year's choke in the second half of the season. They need to take this game against the Seahawks if they want to stay in the race for the playoffs, but that is easier said than done. The Cardinals have playoff hopes and Seattle is rebuilding, but both are 2-3 and the Cardinals are only slim favorites. What does that tell you about what people think of this team?

The roster for the Cardinals isn't the best they have ever had, but it is good enough to where they should be a playoff team. Missing superstar No. 1 wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has certainly affected this offense, and it is very obvious when you watch them play. Hollywood Brown is not your "go-up-and-get-it" type of receiver, and Arizona desperately lacks that type of guy. QB Kyler Murray has struggled to get the offense rolling in the early going, and missing Hopkins I think is a big part of that. When he comes back from his suspension, hopefully he's the same player without using PEDs, and he can make this offense fly.

The offensive line has been better than it has been in previous years with Murray at QB. The rushing attack has been less effective, and that certainly needs to change. Arizona is 3-2 ATS, so they have been covering more often than not so far, and they are also 3-1-1 to the under. They have been a lower scoring team, which is another bad sign for Kingsbury, who runs an "Air-Raid" offense.

Seattle Seahawks Preview

There are no words to describe how disappointed I was when the Seahawks failed to cover the +5.5 spread against the Saints in Week 6. Mostly because I bet on them, but I digress. Look, if there is anything that we know about the Seahawks in 2022, it's that they are going to put up points on offense. Believe me, I never in a million years expected to type that this season, but here we are. This team can score, and the offense has been working with Geno Smith at QB. They only scored 17 on Denver in a Week 1 win, and were held to seven by the 49ers, who have the best defense in football in my opinion, in Week 2. Ever since then, the offense has scored 23, 48, and 32 in three straight weeks. Just incredible for a team we all expected to be terrible this season.

Perhaps the most stunning part of all of this is the career rebirth of Smith. A former 2nd-round pick out of West Virginia, Smith was a bust for the New York Jets, and has spent his career as a backup in the NFL. Not anymore. Smith is third among starting QBs with 8.3 yards per attempt, first in completion percentage, and has nine passing touchdowns to just two interceptions. His turnaround is one of the better stories in sports this year, and we'll see if he can keep it up.

The defense however, is another story. They absolutely love to give up points and yardage. They are allowing 8.6 yards per attempt, the worst in football and only have eight sacks. They are getting gashed by everyone, minus the Nathanial Hackett Broncos, and it has lost them their games to this point. They are giving up five yards per carry on the ground, and are getting shredded through the air.

My Prediction

Kyler Murray and the Cardinals offense has been the worst in the NFL in the first half of games. If there is one team that they can turn that around on, it's the Seahawks defense. Seattle will also get theirs, so I fully expect this to be yet another high-scoring affair that they will be involved in. At this point, you almost have to blind-bet the over for Seahawks games with how bad their defense is and how effective their offense has been.

I'll be on the over 51.5.
