Ravens at Jets Preview For Week 1

The Baltimore Ravens, after being decimated by injuries in 2021, take their renewed expectations into the 2022 season, after finding a way to still squeak out an eight-win season last year. Their win total has seen a jump at some books too, going from 9.5 to 10.5, a sign that there's a lot of interest in a successful season coming again in Baltimore.

The Jets have their own set of higher expectations, just not really on the level of where the Ravens are. After going just 4-13, the hope is a nice to at least over their 5.5 win total and some serious progress from second-year starter Zach Wilson.

Baltimore Ravens

This is the start of a last-place schedule for the Ravens that includes the NFC South and AFC East, and along with the Jets, they'll see the Giants, Jags, Panthers, and Falcons, which should help pad them towards double-digit wins when it's all said and done.

Baltimore at one point was 8-3 last year before Lamar Jackson finally caught the injury bug, and they eventually lost six-straight games.

After trading wide receiver Marquise Brown in the offseason, more attention is clearly on tight end Mark Andrews, who was fifth in receptions and sixth in receiving yards last year. Oh, by the way, he's also +2500 to lead the NFL in receiving yards and receptions in 2022 at BetMGM, in case you're really in on a big year for him.

Weirdly enough though, the Ravens are 0-7 ATS as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points over the last two years, which falls squarely into where they sit right now heading into MetLife Stadium and were just 8-9 ATS as well last season.

Baltimore is 9-1 straight up in its last 10 games against the Jets though, while the Jets are 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games against Baltimore.

New York Jets

The Ravens will see a Jets team that went 6-11 ATS last year, but has made some strides this offseason, drafting receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall, not to mention signing guard Laken Tomlinson and tight end C.J. Uzomah, which will certainly help improve their lack of talent issues at least on paper.

Zach Wilson is the key though, with just nine touchdown passes and 11 picks in his rookie year. If he's healthy enough, he'll go up against a Ravens defense that was just 25th in passing yards allowed in 2021. Jets head coach Robert Saleh said he’ll likely wait until the week of the regular-season opener before naming Wilson the guy under center or Joe Flacco if Wilson can't go, but GM Joe Douglas indicated that Wilson's rehab is on track, giving him a chance to still be the starter after having arthroscopic knee surgery on Aug. 16 after being diagnosed with a bone bruise and meniscus tear in his right knee.

The total has hit the under in six of the Ravens' last nine games, and given the questions we have for this team in the air, there's a good chance this goes the same way against a Jets offense that could be all over the place.
