NBA Best Bets for Thursday, January 30: Top Picks & Predictions

Breaking down the best NBA bets for January 30, including Grizzlies vs. Rockets, Hawks vs. Cavaliers, and Blazers vs. Magic.

Thursday’s NBA slate features intriguing matchups and some prime betting opportunities. The Grizzlies look to bounce back at home against the Rockets, the Hawks and Cavaliers are set for a high-scoring affair, and the surging Trail Blazers could be a sneaky moneyline play against the Magic. Let’s dive into the best bets for January 30.

Grizzlies -4.5 vs. Rockets (-110, BetMGM)

The Grizzlies got absolutely blown out last game against the Knicks, which makes me absolutely love them tonight at home against the Rockets. Why? Well, Memphis has gone an NBA-best 13-2 ATS (86.7%) after a loss. Both of these squads have been elite at covering this season, but I’m going to trust Memphis’ resilience that they’ve shown over the course of the season, especially since they’re 0-3 SU against Houston so far this year with two-point and four-point losses in their last two matchups against them earlier this month. This is an important game for the Grizzlies and I expect them to deliver in what should be an emotional matchup at home.

Hawks at Cavaliers Over 238.5 (-110, FanDuel)

An NBA-high 66.0% of Cleveland’s games have gone over the total this season (31 of 47 contests) while 57.5% of Atlanta’s games have gone over (5th-most, 27 of 47). The Cavaliers own the best Offensive Rating (121.3) in the NBA and play at the 8th-fastest Pace while the Hawks play at the 2nd-fastest Pace, so this should be an up-tempo affair. Jalen Johnson, Clint Capela, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Cody Zeller and Kobe Bufkin will be out for Atlanta while Dean Wade and Sam Merrill will be out for Cleveland while Caris LeVert and Isaac Okoro are questionable. Two previous matchups between these teams resulted in 259 and 218 points, which isn’t a great indication of what might happen in this matchup, but I’m leaning towards the over. Also note that De’Andre Hunter scored 26 and 23 points to lead Atlanta in the first two games (both Hawks wins) and he will be asked to step in for Johnson in this third matchup.

Trail Blazers ML vs. Magic (+180, Caesars)

The Blazers have won five of their last six games overall, including a 101-79 win over the Magic in Orlando. Now at 18-29, Portland doesn’t have an impressive cumulative record, but the Magic have also been struggling at 24-24 due to a plethora of injuries they’ve had to deal with. Coming off an impressive 125-112 win over the Bucks, the young core of Anfernee Simons, Shaedon Sharpe, Scoot Henderson, Deni Avdija, Toumani Camara, Deandre Ayton and Donovan Clingan have been gelling.
