The Philadelphia Eagles spent this offseason upgrading their roster, and now the playoff expectations are only louder as they enter Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.
Philly obviously comes into this season with much higher expectations than the Lions, just barely behind the Cowboys to win the NFC East (+140 on BetMGM), with Detroit and their 6.5 win total sitting as a longshot to even make the postseason (+350).
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles (8-9-1 ATS last year) found themselves doing the whole "get in playoff mode before the playoffs" last year, going from 5-7 overall to 9-8 and a playoff spot after winning four of their last five games. Now, most of the pressure will fall on Jalen Hurts to show he can be a franchise quarterback (+2200 to win MVP on BetMGM), after throwing for just 209 yards per game last year.
Adding AJ Brown as another weapon alongside DeVonta Smith will present some real challenges for a Lions secondary that was 25th against the pass last year. Now, that being said, we know that Hurts still has to show he can be a consistent passer, but he sure has the targets to help him take that next step in 2022.

Detroit Lions
The Lions have become one of those trendy picks in the futures market, with a majority of the money coming in on the over 6.5 wins.
Other than opening the season with a tie in 2019, the Lions have lost each of their last three season openers by at least four points. There's also the fact that they've been outscored by 70 points in their last 10 games against the Eagles that doesn't really bode well for them either.

Even with the questions surrounding Hurts as a passer, the Lions bring a defense that gives plenty of opportunity for the Eagles passing game to find a rhythm.
Detroit may improve their win total by the end of the season, but it likely won't start against the Eagles.
