The Eagles right now are one of the hottest teams in football, and for good reason. QB Jalen Hurts has been astounding through two games, and his offense has put up huge yardage numbers against the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings. The defense, which was shredded by the Lions offense in Week 1, took a step in the right direction with a stifling performance against Kirk Cousins and Minnesota. Overall, they have shown that they are a complete team, but we are just two games into the season. Hurts is already third or fourth right now on most odds boards for NFL MVP, which could be a bit of an overreaction.
It might not be as well, and that has a lot to do with their schedule. Philadelphia has perhaps one of the easiest starts to a season that any team could possibly ask for. Detroit and Minnesota both aren't exactly fantastic teams, but they are still better than some of the upcoming competition. Washington, Jacksonville, Arizona, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Houston, Washington again, Indianapolis, and then Green Bay. They could realistically start the season 10-0 before they get to an opponent that is rated highly. The NFC is just an awful conference, so anything can happen.
Philly is 1-1 ATS so far, and 1-1 to the O/U.
I still find it difficult to call this team the Commanders, and honestly, I thought it was a joke when they renamed the team this. I even liked "The Football Team" more than this, but I'm still of the party that thinks they should never have changed it in the first place. The team is a joke, if we are being honest. They are run by an incompetent owner that doesn't have a clue how to hire the right people to run his team, and he's also cheap and gets into scandal's too often. The performance on the field isn't great either. The offense hasn't been bad, per say, but they also haven't been very good. The Lions shut them down in the first half of their Week 2 game, and Detroit has one of the worst defenses in the NFL. They eventually got to 27 points in an offensive explosion in the 2nd half, but they can't have this happen.
The defense may be the worst unit in football. The Lions put up an insane amount of yards and points on them, and the Jaguars in Week 1 even put up some good offense against them. That unit is a total disaster. Now they get to face a red-hot offense of Philadelphia. However, this is a very large point spread to be giving a team at home.
Washington is 1-1 ATS and both of their first two games have gone over the total.
I know this is a very ugly pick, and I feel disgusting just taking it, but I think this is just too many points to be giving Washington at home. There is a reason this number hasn't reached the key number of 7. A divisional game between two teams that hate each other, and the road team is laying -6.5. I think Washington's offense is competent enough to put up some points on the Eagles defense, and there is one more thing that I have been trying to avoid mentioning until now because it's stupid.
This is the Carson Wentz revenge game. That has zero to do with my handicap, but I'll take Washington +6.5.
