It's early, but the New York Giants may have finally gotten it right.
Just six teams in the NFL are 2-0, and New York is one of them, thanks to the changed culture we're already seeing from rookie head coach Brian Daboll. At +800 to win Coach of the Year at BetMGM, only Miami's Mike McDaniel has shorter odds heading into Week 3.
If the Giants continue this upward trend, McDaniel could have some serious competition for the award.
Sure, the Giants' offense hasn't been a ton of fun to watch, with Daniel Jones (25 to 1 to be the next QB benched) having thrown just three touchdown passes. But he still is a Top-10 rated player at his position, and a major of the success has come on the ground away.
Saquon Barkley leads the NFL in rushing with 236 yards and a touchdown, while the Giants as a team are fifth in the NFL on the ground.
Both wins have come over teams that look destined for high draft picks in the Titans and Panthers, but let's also keep in mind last week they were without starting edge-rushers Azeez Ojulari (calf) and Kayvon Thibodeaux (MCL sprain), along with starting corner Aaron Robinson (appendicitis) and still held the Panthers to 275 total yards while forcing two turnovers.
The NFC East is always a wild ride, and the odds to win it have moved more than a cat chasing a red dot, but the Giants now sit tied with the Cowboys at +550 to win it. Of course, the Eagles are heavy favorites (-225), and rightfully so, but Daboll has given this organization some early credibility again, something they haven't experienced in years.
If he keeps this up, he may soon be known as "Coach of the Year Brian Daboll".
