BetQL Projection: 105 Receiving Yards
While Ja’Marr Chase’s absence is certainly going to have a negative impact on this Bengals offense, both Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins (who I’ll write about in a second) are proven 1,000-yard receivers that have a proven connection with Joe Burrow. Coming off a career-high 155 receiving yards against the Falcons last week, Boyd is poised to produce in a familiar situation out of the slot, on the outside and pretty much anywhere he’s asked to line up.
"I've proven myself. I've had my 1,000. I've shown I can win my matchups. I did it when A.J. went down," Boyd said after Saturday's practice, per Bengals.com. "Moving around, I've been doing it. I've been playing outside. We don't have to scramble our minds about different positions to go to. Now I'm moving around a little bit, but the only difference is maybe a tad few more targets, but I still have my same role."
BetQL projects him to not only get over this 62.5 receiving yards total, but to smash it with 105 on the day.
BetQL Projection: 93 Receiving Yards
Amari Cooper has caught just 34 of his 59 targets this season, but is clearly going to be the No. 1 target for Jacoby Brissett this week since David Njoku will miss this contest due to an injury. Cooper has gone over 54.5 receiving yards in four of his last six games (he got over 73 in all four of those and got over 100 in two) and BetQL is projecting him to accumulate 93 in this spot.
Bengals cornerback Chidobe Awuzie will likely be primarily defending Cooper and the two are close friends from their days with the Cowboys. Awuzie is very talented, but Cooper’s elite route-running and Cleveland’s presumed willingness to move him around should result in a nice day for the pass-catcher based on the perceived target share he will attract.
BetQL Projection: 108 Receiving Yards
Higgins has gotten over this 73.5 receiving yards number in three of his last four games (93, 124 and 93) and is in an obvious situation to pick up additional targets, like Boyd. BetQL projects him to amass 108, easily going over his total. Unlike other offenses in which a star receiver’s absence requires his backup to come in and line up on the outside or inside for the majority of the snaps, this Bengals offense is well-equipped to continue a high level of production since receivers already get moved around so much.
"Our receivers have always been movable parts. It's not just Ja'Marr playing X, Tee is Z, TB is F. They get moved around all the time," coach Zac Taylor said about this situation, per Bengals.com. "So they've always had to have intimate knowledge of the playbook because they can be put in anywhere and have to execute. So this doesn't really change anything for them. We're asking them to do things that they've always done."
