Well, this isn’t how the defending AFC Champions wanted to start the 2022 season. The Bengals lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers (23-20) in overtime in Week 1 and then fell to the Dallas Cowboys (20-17) in Week 2. Losing to Mitch Trubisky and Cooper Rush in back-to-back weeks is not optimal. Not only that, but Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati offense have struggled, averaging just 4.3 yards per play (2nd-worst in the NFL) and the quarterback has completed 64% of his passes for 268.5 passing yards per contest with three touchdowns and four interceptions and has taken an absurd 13 sacks.
Running back Joe Mixon has also struggled to get any running lanes from this putrid offensive line and has averaged just 3.0 yards per carry (139 yards on 46 carries). Despite the struggles, the regular season is long and there’s still a lot of time to turn things around. Cincinnati has gone 9-2 ATS on the road over the last two years.
The Jets pulled off a miraculous comeback against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2, with a 31-30 road victory. What made that win extra dramatic was that if Nick Chubb decided to go down in bounds instead of rushing for his third touchdown of the game, the Jets would have never gotten the ball back with a chance to make things happen. Quarterback Joe Flacco has done a nice job filling in for the injured Zach Wilson, throwing for 616 yards, 5 touchdowns and an interception so far, but what’s most notable about New York’s offense so far has been their play-calling. They’ve thrown the ball 104 times compared to just 37 rushing attempts.
Under Robert Saleh, the Jets have gone just 2-9 ATS as an underdog of 3.5 to 9.5 points, though, so keep that in mind.
Both of these teams are not afraid to put the ball in the air and I can see both squads putting up points in this contest. Based on their expectations, the Bengals need to win this game, so I’d be inclined to back their moneyline, target the Jets ATS and bet the over. Want to tail or fade these picks?
