Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles Prediction

First place in the NFC East is on the line Sunday night as the Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys in a battle between two teams that will still have a losing record regardless of who wins. Kickoff is set for 8:20 EST on Sunday, November 1, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The current odds list the Eagles as 7.5-point favorites at home with an over/under of 43.5 points. Keep reading to take a closer look at both teams and find out our Eagles vs Cowboys prediction.

Philadelphia Eagles Preview

The Eagles have to be thrilled about getting one in the win column last week against the Giants. They didn’t make it easy on themselves, but Philadelphia found a way to overcome a 21-10 deficit in the fourth quarter to win 22-21. It was certainly an ugly win, but nothing about the NFC East this year has been aesthetically pleasing. Most importantly, the win pushed the Eagles into first place at 2-4-1, although Dallas and Washington are right behind them at 2-5, so a second straight win would be huge.

Carson Wentz has been criticized a lot this year for the ugly numbers he’s posted at times. But he deserves a ton of credit for hanging in there with the diminished supporting cast around him. DeSean Jackson is done for the year and the status of Miles Sanders and Alshon Jeffery this week is yet to be determined. The Eagles are also without their top two tight ends while Lane Johnson is struggling with an injury amidst all of the other absences on the offensive line. Despite throwing as many interceptions as touchdowns this year and taking 28 sacks in seven games, Wentz is doing enough every week to at least keep the Eagles in the game in the fourth quarter.

The Philadelphia defense hasn’t done Wentz and the offense many favors this year, conceding 28 points per game. Despite last week’s win, giving up 21 points against the Giants isn’t exactly a step in the right direction. Stopping the run has been a problem, especially against teams that have mobile quarterbacks. If the Eagles can get a lead, they have a defensive line that can create problems for opposing quarterbacks. But the front-seven hasn’t done a good enough job of slowing down the run and giving Wentz and the offense an opportunity to take a lead

Dallas Cowboys Preview

The Cowboys could be on the verge of seeing their season spiral out of control. They’re now 0-2 since losing Dak Prescott to a season-ending injury, getting outscored 63-13 in those games. Owner Jerry Jones spoke about a lack of leadership in the locker room earlier this week, which speaks to a lack of optimism in Dallas turning things around. On the other hand, the 2-5 Cowboys can leap ahead of the Eagles into first place in the NFC East with a win this week, so hope is not yet lost.

Of course, the Cowboys have to do something about their offense after scoring 13 points total over the last two weeks. Quarterback Andy Dalton was terrible against Washington last week, completing nine of 19 passes for just 75 yards. He then suffered a concussion on a vicious hit, so his status for this week is uncertain. The Cowboys may have to go with Ben DiNucci, who attempted three passes and took three sacks after replacing Dalton last week. Regardless of who plays quarterback, the Cowboys will need more out of Ezekiel Elliott, who has been held under 50 yards in three of his last five games.

On the other side of the ball, the Dallas defense isn’t inspiring much confidence these days. The good news is that the Cowboys broke a streak of five straight games of conceding over 30 points last week. The bad news is that giving up 25 points and nearly 400 yards of offense against Kyle Allen and the Washington offense is almost most than giving up 30-plus points to an average team. The Dallas defense has given up the most points in the NFL this year and doesn’t appear to have any answers at the moment.

Full Game Prediction

Needless to say, both of these teams are incredibly flawed. It will be interesting to see if the Dallas defense can show up against a Philadelphia offense that’s riddled with injuries and has some obvious limitations. The Cowboys aren’t built to win a high-scoring game without Prescott. But if they can keep the Philadelphia offense under wraps, the Dallas skill players are good enough to give the Cowboys a fighting chance.
