The Awkward Aspect Of The Notre Dame/Bowling Green Matchup

A former Irish coach will be on Bowling Green's sideline

When Notre Dame hosts Bowling Green on Saturday, ex-Irish defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder will be patrolling the sidelines for the visiting team. Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly fired VanGorder after his second year as the Irish DC back in 2015 and since then, he worked as a defensive assistant at Georgia and Oklahoma State and then as Louisville’s DC last season before landing at Bowling Green.

It’s been tough sledding for VanGorder and his defense (they gave up 62 points to Kent State last week and 52 to Kansas State two weeks before that), but his knowledge of Kelly’s playbook could give him a tactical edge at various points in the game. Bowling Green opened as 45.5 point underdogs, so they’ll need all the help they can get.
