This Beavers team is good, and I mean really good. If you weren't able to watch their last game against USC, you missed an instant classic. They lost 17-14, but Oregon State had the offensive powerhouse stifled right up until the very last drive. The offense struggled against the Trojans and committed four turnovers, but the team was right there in the final moments and almost pulled off the upset.
The secondary had problems against Jake Haener and Fresno State, but it’s been great against everyone else, including Caleb Williams and the all-star receivers of USC.
The offense of the Beavers can really push the ball down the field, with QB Chance Nolan leading the way. He hasn't been great, but they can get yards quickly with him under center. The offensive line may be the best unit on this team, and they will be able to at least hold their own against the stout Utah defensive line. They won't be able to bully them, but they can make life difficult for the Utes.
This rushing attack is going to go off in this game. Oregon State isn’t generating a pass rush or stopping enough plays in the backfield, and that is going to be an issue against Utah. They are allowing 4.7 YPC, and that is not going to get it done against this team. This rushing attack has been killing teams, just ask San Diego State or Arizona State. They straight up pushed them around, and that could happen again here in this game.
The Utes are a model of consistency on offense, and they will be able to get theirs in this game. Utah has one of the most balanced attacks in the country, and the question will be if Oregon State can do enough with their offense to actually keep up in the game against a very good Utes defense.
The one thing that tells me that Utah will win this game is the fact that Oregon State just turns the ball over far too much. Utah does just the opposite, and they barely ever turn the ball over, at just one per game. Oregon State lost the ball three times against Boise State and the four picks against USC crushed them in the end. Utah has forced seven turnovers over the last three games.
I'll take the Utes -10.5.
