Today’s Best NHL Game Prop Bets

NHL betting is back, and there are bundles of excellent nightly wagering opportunities across an array of bet types. Prop bets, puckline (spread), over/unders, and parlays are the primary bet types.  Two games kick off the first day of the 2022-23 NHL season on North American soil, and here are the best prop bets to take advantage of, from BetMGM.

L.A. Kings vs. Vegas Golden Knights, 9 p.m. ET

In Which Period Will the Most Goals Be Scored? 2nd Period (+160)

The Los Angeles Kings host the Vegas Golden Knights to kick off both teams’ seasons on Tuesday. The first 20 minutes should be a bit of a feeling-out period where both teams play safe, disciplined hockey.

Expect things to tighten up in the third and decisive period, especially if one team has the lead.

Those aren’t the only reasons to place the prop that sees the most goals scored in the second period.

The Kings dominated in the middle stanza of the 2021-22 campaign, scoring 92 goals, the ninth most in the NHL. Vegas wasn’t too far behind, scoring 88 goals in the second frame.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Rangers, 7:30 p.m. ET
Time of First Goal: 09:00 – 60:00 minutes (-111)

Old foes meet at Madison Square Garden as the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning renew acquaintances. A repeat of the 2021-22 Eastern Conference final promises a defensive battle with first-rate goaltending.

The Rangers had the second-best defense (2.49 goals against per game), while Tampa Bay boasted the league’s sixth-most stingy defense (2.78 goals against per game) in 2021-22.

Both teams will want to get through the first nine minutes without allowing a goal, a likely outcome if they stay out of the penalty box. Unless there’s a power-play goal, Igor Shesterkin or Andrei Vasilevskiy should ensure a scoreless opening nine minutes.

No first-period goals were scored in the final four games of the Eastern Conference final, another indicator that a scoreless nine minutes are on tap.
