The Crimson Tide steamrolled defending Mountain West champion Utah State last week. It was total annihilation in a 55-0 victory for Alabama, and that is only because they let off the gas pedal by pulling the starters in the third quarter. They didn't score a point in the fourth. The Tide might have won this game by 100 points if they tried all game, but good sportsmanship is still alive and well it seems.
Alabama is a machine that just keeps on producing the greatest talents in the sport year in and year out. They lose a ton of star power every year to the NFL Draft, yet they still come back the next and destroy everything in their path. They ran for 278 yards last week and threw for 281, showing balance on their way to this massive win. The offensive line is better than it was in 2021, which will give Heisman winner Bryce Young more time to sling it around the field. The defense is angry after that National Championship loss to Georgia last season, and with the talent they have there, it was no wonder a motivated Tide defense shut-out Utah State.
Texas has the talent, but I'm not so sure they're ready for the storm that is approaching on the horizon.

Has Texas finally changed from their losing ways and gotten back to prominence on the college football landscape? That is a question that will be answered shortly. A lot of things have changed for the Longhorns in their efforts to create a winning program again. The offense should be deadly, with a healthy Bijan Robinson in the backfield and one of the best WR's in the country in Xavier Worthy patrolling the outside. The success of the team will depend on young starter Quinn Ewers, who was the No. 1 recruit in the country coming out of high school a few years back. While there is still many questions to be answered, it doesn't get much more promising than this to give Longhorn fans hope.
The skill players are there, and the line play on both sides of the ball should be better in 2022 than it was last season. The defense has a reputation of being terrible, but there is some hope they can be better and more aggressive. Don't kid yourselves, they won't be stopping the Alabama attack from doing their jobs, but maybe they can force a field goal now and again. They will absolutely need to if they don't want to start another season off in the wrong direction. Texas has the skill to keep up with the Crimson Tide, but they will need to get off to a hot start to get momentum on their side.

No matter what Texas does in this game, Alabama will be able to do it better. The Longhorns should have some big plays with the talent they possess on offense, but the Crimson Tide will simply have more and do it more frequently.
The Alabama defense should be able to stop Robinson for the most part with their superior line play up front, and they will force Ewers to beat them deep. He might be able to do it a few times, but not enough to keep up with the guy on the other side slinging the football around.
Bryce Young should have a fairly easy time picking apart the Texas secondary, and I think by the middle of the third quarter when the running game starts to take over, we will be making memes again about the Longhorns program. I think this is more likely to be a blowout than a close one at the end.
Give me Alabama -20.
