Baylor at Texas Prediction

These are two teams that know how to put points up on the board. Baylor has the second-best offense in college basketball and does a great job of grabbing offensive rebounding and finishing second-chance scoring opportunities. They're also ranked 12th in the nation in getting to the free throw line and are converting 76.2% of attempts. Those are two categories that I like to pay attention to when I'm looking at totals because of the added scoring opportunities they present. Texas can also score at a high clip, shooting 46% from 2-point range where it takes the majority of its shots. While the Longhorns are great defensively, they keep the game moving by playing at a fast pace, ranking 35th in average length of possession.

My Pick: Baylor vs. Texas Over 146.5

Virginia at Syracuse Prediction

Virginia and Syracuse will meet for the second time this season after the Cavaliers took the first meeting 73-66. I'm going to target Virginia's team total to go over 68.5. Despite Tony Bennett's team playing at a snail's pace, they are extremely efficient on the offensive end. According to Haslametrics, the Cavaliers are ranked ninth nationally in three-point field goal percentage, shooting just under 40% from deep. Syracuse is also a very poor defensive rebounding team, which will give Virginia a chance to capitalize on the offensive boards and get plenty of second-chance opportunities. The Orange have allowed teams to go over this number in six of their last seven games and the Cavaliers have topped this number in three of their last four.

My Pick: Virginia Team Total Over 68.5

Iowa State at Texas Tech Prediction

Coming off a terrible blow-out loss to Missouri over the weekend, I expect Iowa State to bounce back tonight against Texas Tech despite playing on the road. The Cyclones actually shot the ball fairly well in that matchup and won the rebounding battle, but what killed them was their 19 turnovers. That's uncharacteristic for a team that's usually very disciplined and takes good care of the basketball. Typically, Iowa State's defense is the one forcing their opponents into turnovers, which I could see being the case tonight against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders have also struggled to score this season against top defenses and unfortunately for them, the Cyclones have one of the best defenses in the country.
