Best College Basketball Bets Today

Every day, I’ll handicap games early in the morning (east coast time) and provide a short explanation as to why I like them.

Iowa State vs West Virginia (-3.5), Analysis

This game will be played at the intersection of a couple of different trends that I like.

The first is that West Virginia is an unranked favorite playing against Iowa State, a ranked underdog. This remains one of my favorite betting spots in college sports. Most recently, we saw unranked Virginia Tech take down UVA as a 1-point favorite.

There’s also the teams themselves. Iowa State has just two road wins on the year; the Cyclones are a classic good-at-home, bad-on-the-road squad. West Virginia, meanwhile, is playing some of its best basketball of the season.

There’s also the market movement on this game, which is positive for WVU. This game opened at WVU -2.5, but it looks like it could hit WVU -4 in the early afternoon.

Iowa State vs West Virginia Prediction:

Play: West Virginia -3.5

The Mountaineers are hot, and I think the strong play will continue tonight. Watch out for Erik Stevenson.

Georgetown vs Providence (-12.5), Analysis:

Georgetown has a putrid record at the bottom of the Big East standings, so you’d be forgiven for ignoring their games of late.

Quietly, though, the Hoyas have been really rounding into form of late. They’ve pushed several teams right to the final minute over the last few weeks, including UConn, Villanova, and St. John’s. They’ve covered six straight games because the market ballooned, right as they started to get better.

Today, Georgetown hits the road for Providence College, where the Friars opened as 14-point favorites against the conference’s last-place team. Understandable. But in spite of 50/50 betting action, Georgetown is down to +12.5 at BetMGM, and I think this line could move more before tipoff.

Georgetown vs Providence Prediction:

Play: Georgetown +12.5. With this many points on their side, the Hoyas’ cover streak is likely to continue tonight.
